Do you remember?

That house next to your neighbour's,
That was mine.

Those butterflies
that you were trying to catch in my garden
the day I met you,
They were mine.

The smile that I laughed at when I first saw you at my door,
That was mine.

That wall of memories you saw in my room,
That was mine.

Those happy tears in my eyes that
you used to smile at,
They were mine.

Those books you saw in my room that day
Neatly arranged and making you happy,
They were mine.
The characters,
They were mine.
The crying and laughing after reading those,
That was mine.

The bad responses that I gave
to your equally bad questions,
They were mine.

The weird behaviour that
you always used to laugh at,
That was mine.

The day that we fought,
And you told me that you'll never leave me
And I smiled and said those three beautiful words,
Remember?
They were mine.

Every single secret I ever told you,
That was mine.

My favourite things that you grew to like,
They were mine.

The worst thunderstorm of my life
That came when you entered my house that day,
And casually broke me,
That was mine to experience.

Those broken tears that dripped down my face
when you broke your promise,
They were mine.

Those dead butterflies in my garden,
They weren't mine,
but you forced them to be.

And what was yours?

Darling,
From the beginning,
Every part of me
My tears
My happiness
My love
My weird behaviour
My smile
Everything was yours.
Every
Single
Thing.

Yet.

You shattered all it.
You stole my identity.
You took away my happiness.
You left me.

Tell me.
You wanted to leave me from the start
Yet you waited for the best part,
And when I was at my worst,
That's when you made the decision to break my trust.

And now the only things left
That are mine
Are
The memories of you
Your smile
Your face
Your promise
Your foolish attitude
And the hatred
That I feel for
You.

-about-

written: march 11, 2021

A poem that I wrote in the midst of studying. I first sent it to someone I know but later regretted it. Not going to reveal why.
Nevertheless, this is certainly one of my favourite poems and any day of the week, I'll pick this to be in the top 5 because of its words and imagery.
Here, it describes how a person, no matter how good, can easily break someone's trust and leave them in the span of a moment.
I have no idea if this has ever happened to me, but I just imagined this scenario and wrote the poem.

-anyways, thanks for reading, people!! do vote and comment if you liked it-
