The chandelier only took a split-second to plummet, but Dream reacted quicker.
With barely even an additional thought, he looked to George with terror-stricken eyes, and dove headfirst, colliding his body with the king's. With one arm wrapped tightly around George's waist, Dream managed to use his other hand to grab Karl's wrist, pulling him along. They were thrown just out of range from the crashing light fixture, piling on each other in a heap as the sharp glass shattered against the ballroom floor.
Dream shook his head, trying to rid himself of the high pitched ringing in his ear. He opened his eyes, to see he had fallen directly on George. With a worrisome expression, he quickly got to his feet, and outstretched his hand to help the brunette king as well.
Once they were both on their feet, Dream pulled George closer, wrapping a protective arm around his shoulder as they surveyed the damage. Karl had landed just a few feet away from them, and was already up and walking around, making sure all the other guests were safe.
Once most of the ringing had finally cleared from Dream's head, he looked down to George, the small king's eyes blazing with concern and fear. George looked up to return the glance, and as soon as their eyes met, Dream could feel the surface level of peace slowly coming back together. But that didn't change the growing fury raging inside the tall blonde. Dream shot his gaze back up to the staircase, where Sapnap was frantically sprinting down, leaving a pensive King Halo trailing slowly behind.
Suddenly Dream felt a light, warm hand graze his cheek. He looked down to see George smiling softly at him, seemingly unaware of the imminent danger they just endured. Dream shot him a confused and bewildered look, which George rolled his eyes in response to. Still with Dream's arm wrapped around him, George brought Dream's ear the smallest bit closer, causing his brown eyes to twinkle as he whispered quietly.
"You'll never let me fall, right? Don't think I've forgotten." The brunette said, his soft smile still intact.
Dream scoffed gently, a baffled smile of his own beginning to appear. "What makes you so sure?" He asked perplexedly.
George took a good look at the ongoing chaos in the room around them before turning back with an answer. He cleared his throat.
"Well.. to answer your question earlier I suppose.." He looked into Dream's sparkling emerald eyes. "I trust you, Dream."
With a victorious smile and new-found confidence, Dream smiled at George and released his strong grip around the king's shoulders, before taking George's hand into his own. As his bright green eyes glowed with rage, Dream marched to the base of the staircase, not flinching once as Sapnap ran frantically to meet him.
"DREAM! Oh my god Dream.. I- I'm so sorry I had no idea." Dream waved his hand to cut off the babbling prince and looked at him with fierce eyes.
"Now tell me, what EXACTLY did Halo tell you up there?" Dream asked him, still clenching George's hand as if it was his very life-line.
Sapnap began to look around with a panicked expression. "He uh- he just said.. Well that peace isn't an option. Something about power- uncontrollable power.. oh god- he was glowing red Dream, I couldn't recognize his eyes."
Dream pushed past Sapnap, his head held high as walked up King Halo, a fury in his footsteps he had never known.
But as soon as he met eyes with the dark king, all rationale went out the window and Dream suddenly saw a stranger before him, instead of the man who had raised him all his life. The utter wrath that had been filling Dream's mind suddenly turned to desolate heartbreak, as he realized he was watching his whole world crumble to pieces.
