levi ackerman loved working at the cafe. as much as he detested his boss; hange, and her constant bubbly attitude, he loved being surrounded by the comforting smells of coffee and tea leaves. he loved getting to make hot drinks for people bustling into the cafe seeking refuge from the cold, and most of all he loved getting to see y/n everyday.

y/n came in every single day without fail; ordering the same thing every time. at first, levi thought it was strange that she came everyday; but eventually he began to look forward to her constant visits. her and levi had become friends of sorts, as she always told him about her day, or random things going on in her life, and levi always listened. hange had told him that he had a crush on the h/c haired girl, but he always refused to believe it. besides, he thought she was such a wonderful person that it was impossible she wasn't seeing someone already.

levi sighed, and returned from the storage room with a stack of boxes filled to the brim with coffee beans. it had been a slower day, despite the influx of costumers seeking refuge from the rain. levi checked the time as he began restocking, noticing that it was way past the time y/n usually stopped by. he had saved her a muffin, knowing that was what she always ordered along with her drink. "maybe she's just caught in the rain." levi thought aloud to himself. hange chuckled from beside him and poked him. "you're worried aren't ya? since your girlfriend hasn't showed up yet?" she teased.

levi scoffed and turned his attention back to what he was doing, just as he heard the familiar chime of the bell signaling that someone was entering. he looked up and his heart skipped a beat as he saw y/n come in and shake the rain from her umbrella. she wore a simple jacket and a green beanie; a graphic tee shirt of her favorite anime on it. levi had always admired how she dressed; like she wasn't afraid of what people thought of her. she made her way to the front counter, immediately smiling when she met levi's gaze.

not wanting to give anything away, levi quickly looked back down at the boxes and busied himself; hange giggling beside him again. "hiya y/nnnn." hange sang as they prepared a costumer's order. y/n smiled and nodded politely. "hey hange, it's pretty close to closing; i thought i wouldn't make it on time!" she said as she fished around in her tote bag for her wallet. hange laughed and left levi and y/n alone while they delivered the order. levi looked up again, finally finished stocking the shelves, then addressed the girl in front of him. "did you want your usual?" he asked simply.

the girl thought for a moment before speaking again. "i'll take my usual muffin, but i wanna try a new drink..how about you surprise me?" levi processed her request, then nodded. "alright. if you wanna wait over there and sit down i can bring it out to you." he offered. the cafe was getting a lot less crowded as it was close to closing, so there was room for y/n to sit if she wanted. "actually, i was hoping to sit here with you. i enjoy your company." she chimed with a smile and sat down at the barstool. "okay. i-i don't mind." levi stammered; mentally cursing himself for stuttering.

while levi prepared her order, hange began closing up the cafe like normal; of course allowing y/n to stay since she was a special costumer to them. while she tried her best to look happy and bright as usual, levi couldn't help but notice that y/n seemed distracted by something; upset even. he had found it strange already that she had come in late, but now he couldn't help but feel like something was truly bothering the girl.

"you were late today." he noted aloud as he shook up a bottle of whipped cream. y/n was silent for a moment before nodding. "yeah, i got caught up with some family stuff." she responded simply. levi nodded wordlessly, then slid his creation across the counter.

y/n smiled at him before taking a sip; her eyes widening at the taste. "wow levi, this is amazing." she chimed happily and took another eager sip. levi hadn't even noticed that he had let a smile slip at her content, but he quickly leveled his expression before she could notice anything. "tch. i'm glad you like it." he mumbled before beginning his daily task of wiping down the tables.

by the time he had finished, y/n was still sitting at the counter. she had pulled out her laptop and was simply typing away when levi finally slipped his apron off for the day and sat down beside her with an exhausted sigh. y/n chuckled and nudged him. "you deserve a break ya know. you always work so hard." she said, to which levi blushed slightly and turned away at her compliment. "i suppose, but i enjoy the work. i enjoy coming here everyday, even though it means dealing with grouchy costumers and that dammed four eyes." y/n laughed at his response, knowing how much levi cared for his friend despite how much he teased them.

y/n checked her watch and sighed at the late time. "well, i probably should be heading home..sorry for keeping you so long after closing." she giggled. levi shook his head and gathered his coat too before pulling out her chair for her. "no worries, i don't mind your company. i'll walk you out." he offered. y/n smiled and nodded, and levi pondered how he had managed to say all of that with stuttering or messing up.

as they walked out together, levi couldn't help but stare at the girl. the way she looked around at the world as if it were so complex and new. he longed to see the world through her eyes; to know how she always managed to have such a vibrant vibe to her. he knew that he should've stopped staring- it was no doubt creepy, but he couldn't stop himself. to him, she was captivating and beautiful and he wanted nothing more than to know her; to be with her outside the confinement's of the cafe.

levi stopped and cleared his throat awkwardly, causing the girl to turn in confusion. "um..if you uh-i was wondering if maybe you wanted to-to go out somet-time..damnit." levi spoke, a stammering stumbling mess. he had never asked someone out on a date before; so this was an extremely foreign situation for him. he also was used to being gifted at everything, so it was strange having to do something out of his domain.

y/n chuckled lightly then took out a pen and started scribbling something on her now-empty cup. levi waited anxiously; silently. he was embarrassed because he felt as though he had made a complete fool out of himself, and y/n hadn't exactly responded yet. he was gonna just leave, but he froze when she shoved the cup into his chest.

levi raised an eyebrow at her in confusion, but still he shakily turned the cup over and was surprised to find a..phone number?

y/n smiled and fiddled with her hands a bit. "i'd love to go out with you levi. i've been waiting ages for you to ask me." she said hopefully. all of a sudden, levi was very aware of the rapid beating of his heart. "really? you w-wanted me to..?" again, he mentally cursed himself for stammering.

y/n bobbed her head up and down happily with a smile. "yeah! i meant it when i said i liked spending time with you. that's also why i've been visiting the cafe so much..i suppose a part of me gets excited knowing that you'll be there." she added with a slight blush. levi couldn't believe what he was hearing. she really liked him?

he didn't know what to say, and y/n could sense that, so she laughed again before speaking. "how does tomorrow night sound? you can pick me up after your shift." she offered. all levi could muster was a nod. he hated how unnatural this was for him, but he loved the rush of adrenaline that she gave him. y/n smiled once more, before placing a quick peck on levi's already flushed cheek. "alrighty, see ya then. goodnight levi!" and with that she was gone into the night.

this left levi bringing a shaking hand to his cheek; his fingers grazing over the spot her lips had just left. never in a million years had he imagined this happening to him, but he was grateful for it.

he smiled to himself as he started his walk home.
