Reki had been about to walk with his board toards the starting line when he felt his hoodie being swiftly pulled back. He glanced behind him in surprise, making straight eye contact with you. The irritated looking face you made had suprised him and caused him turn sideways to look at you better.
"Dumbass, be careful out there." You mumbled with a frown. Your eyebrows had been furrowed together in anger before they suddenly creased in worry."I don't...I'm not liking this. I'm telling you, it's a bad feeling. I hope you know how much you mean to me and how fucking insane I'm going right now." You breathed out, keeping in the water threatening to spill from your eyes. Your heart thumped loudly and ached inside your rib cage as if asking to be let out and protect your endangered best friend. The heat waves crossing your body made you feel excessively hot under all your layer of clothes, making the situation all the more difficult to comprehend.
"That's not Shadow and you have absolutely no idea what this guy is capable of." You said, pointing to Adam who prepared himself for the race with more confidence than you had been confortable with." I'm not even asking you to win this, whatever happens next is not your fault so don't be stupid. I'm so scared that you'd get hurt enough not to-"
Reki cut you off as he layed a finger against your lips softly, shutting you up from your worried and frantic ranting. He had never seen you so on edge before, surprisingly concidering the number of times you had worried over him when he had went out there to beef against someone. He let his hand guide itself to your cheek, tracing your bottom lip subtly with his thumb in the process. Your breath had stopped when you took notice of the gentle eyes he had been giving you. You couldn't look away from them. Yours had been wide in fear while his were full of, what you could only tell had been adoration. The amount of respect and admiration he had for you was something he could not put into words himself.
Hugging you close with his chin propped on top of your hooded head, Reki ran a hand down your back and drew circles to soothe your erratic nerves. Squished up against him, you clung tightly onto him as if you'd let him go, he'd disappear. You wouldn't want that. You didn't know what you'd do and who you'd be anymore.
Reki could literally feel your cardiac frequency through your skin, knowing how much you cared for his safety. He felt safer knowing you'd be watching him. After hugging for a few more seconds, you finally let go, much to both of your disappointments. The red head looked at you straight in the eyes and gave you a slight nervous smile.
"That won't happen. I'll never let it. Your still standing and I will as well. Just as long as you don't pull the towel, I won't either." He said, carefully pulling your hoodie that had started descending off your head back on your face. He leaned down slightly to look at you in the eyes." Just watch and be there for me, okay? I'll do my best, I promise. Stay close to Langa and hope for the better."
Your mouth had been slightly open, speechless at his words making him lift a finger to your chin and close it. You blinked back to life, the world around you seemingly coming back to normal. You gave Reki a hesitant nod as Langa layed a hand on your shoulder to pull you back gently into him. Reki gave Langa a nod, the bluenette reciprocating the act. The red head walked towards the starting line and positioned himself for a headstart.
The chrimson from the traffic lights blared with loud sounds through the silence of the place, every horn making your heart beat in dread at the last seconds your best friend had before getting himself into a very dangerous and threatening situation. You chewed the inside of your cheek as you crossed your fingers at a tightness that turned them white as paper.
'Please be careful.'
When the last traffic light lit up and the flag had been lifted, Reki took a descent head start with speed. He skated down the hill and got ahead with confidence.
