I could hear them, their laughter piercing through the thin walls. The sound of her wrapping her arms around him and kissing him made me want to break something, to snap her hands in half.

It infuriated me that the walls weren't soundproof, and my room happened to be right next to theirs. I didn't want to hear their damn noises, or even consider the possibility that they might be intimate with each other. Anger and an unknown feeling boiled inside me, and I had an overwhelming urge to tear down their fucking door and confront them.

I made my way to Ethan's room, finding him sitting on his bed, engrossed in a book.

"Hey, can I come in?" I asked, hoping for a distraction.

"Of course," he replied, moving aside to give me space to sit beside him.

"Am I interrupting?" I inquired.

"Never. I'll always make time for you," he assured me.

"We finish school early tomorrow. Would you like to go somewhere together?" he suggested.

"You mean like a date?" I questioned.

"You could say that. How about we have a picnic on the hill at the edge of town? The night sky there is breathtaking," he proposed.

"Sure, it's been ages since I had a picnic date," I responded.

Ethan reached out, taking my hand in his, his gaze fixed on me. He gently brushed away a strand of hair that had fallen across my face, tucking it behind my ear.

"I'll make up for the two years I made you suffer," he said softly.

"I forgave you already, you know," I reassured him, meeting his dark brown eyes.

"But it's still my fault, and I want to make it right," he insisted, his fingers grazing my cheek.

A blush crept onto my cheeks, hidden by the dimly lit room.

"It's getting late. You should get some rest. I don't want you exhausted tomorrow," he said, leaning in to plant a gentle kiss on my forehead. Butterflies fluttered in my stomach at the sweet gesture.

"Good night, Amelia," he whispered.

"Good night, Ethan," I replied.

I walked out of his room just in time to witness Lucas and Veronica emerging from his room.

"I had a great time tonight. You should invite me over more often, babe," Veronica remarked.

"It's late. You should go," Lucas replied.

"Fine, but don't forget about our date tomorrow," she said, winking at him.

With that, she left through the front door.

"So, are you planning to tell me you hooked up with my best friend?" Lucas questioned, approaching me, his gaze piercing mine.

"I... I... we just got together. It's a long story," I stammered.
