Achmetropolis, Loonatics HQ
Two Days later
10:04 am MorningPenny's POV
It had been an interesting two days since we took down Pyro. The charges against me from the first day I met the Loonatics were dropped, thanks to the people of Acmetropolis who wanted me to be free. I was excited to find out from a letter from the chief of police that everything had been dropped. I was a free panther now, and I knew what I wanted to do: help the people and protect Acmetropolis from those who sought to destroy it.
Today, I wanted to head to town to get some items to help Tech with his next weapon design. I had been assisting him with blueprints, doing my best after he explained everything to me.
I finished fixing my blue hair into a messy bun, with some strands still down past my shoulders, and wrapped my favorite green ribbon around it. I smoothed down my light pink tank top with the white words 'Cutie Pie' across the chest. I wore jeans tucked into boots and grabbed my purse and jacket before stepping out of my room. To my surprise, Lexi was about to knock on my door.
"Oh! Good timing, Pen," Lexi said cheerfully, making me curious and a bit worried. Her sugary tone made me suspicious—she was up to something.
"Oh? May I ask why this is good timing, or should I be worried?" I inquired.
Lexi kept smiling normally, but I narrowed my eyes, convinced she was hiding something.
"Nothing silly. Now come on! I need to buy some things at the mall~"
Before I could reply, she grabbed my arm and dragged me to the mall. I had a nagging feeling she was hiding something. Whenever I asked her about it, she cold-sweated and changed the subject as if I hadn't asked at all. But, I was actually having fun hanging out with Lexi. We were the only females on the team, and we girls stuck together.
Lexi was inside a dressing room trying on outfits while I browsed through racks of clothes. I heard her sigh and mumble things like 'he won't like that...' and 'Ugh! The darn top got stuck.' I walked over and knocked on the door.
"You okay in there, Lex?"
"I-I'm doing okay... just having difficulty with the clothes I picked—agh!! I give up!" I gasped and stepped back when Lexi stormed out of the dressing room, surprising the other shoppers and me.
"Whoa! What's wrong?" I asked calmly.
"I can't find the right outfit to get Ace to notice me. No matter how many outfits I try on... none are good enough," she admitted.
My heart clenched in pain, seeing my friend and ally struggling to get a boy's attention. I walked right in front of her, placing my hands on her shoulders and smiling gently.
"Lex, I may not know Ace as well as you or the other Loonatics, but... Ace cares about your true self and what's inside. You could look like you rolled in mud and your hair amiss, and he'd still think you are beautiful. I know he cares for you. In fact, I think he even like, likes you."
