Flashback

"Where are we going, Mommy, Daddy?" a 5-year-old black panther with heterochromatic eyes asked her parents.

"Somewhere fun, sweetie. Right, Matt?"

"Yeah...very fun."

Lies...all lies.

The three stopped near an alleyway.

"Oh my! Matt dear, I seem to have forgotten my purse!"

"Forgetful as always, May. Penny, can you wait right here? We'll be back, just stay right here."

No...please don't leave me daddy...mommy...

"Okay, Daddy! I'll wait right here!"

Her parents smiled at their daughter and then walked away. The little girl stood there for minutes... hours, days, weeks, months, and years. Her parents...never showed up.

End of Flashback

I gasped, sitting up and panting slightly, sweat rolling down my face. After calming down, I looked around and realized I was in a hospital. I raised my right hand to wipe the tears from my fur, but I couldn't—I was handcuffed to the bed. It must have been a special restraint, as my attempt to zap it with my purple lightning powers had no effect.

Slowly, I lifted my body to sit up and noticed the nurse call button. I reached for it and pressed it.

"Oh good, you're awake," an otter woman said as she walked in with a kind smile. "Are you thirsty or hungry?"

I nodded, smiling shyly. "Y-yes, please. Thank you."

She left for a minute and returned with a tray of food and a cup of water.

"Here you go, hun," she said, placing the tray on the stand in front of me. I frowned, realizing I couldn't use my right hand.

"Oh dear, sorry, hun. They just wanted to make sure no one else got hurt by accident," she explained with a sad smile.

My eyes widened in horror. "Th-the pink bunny...Lexi? I-Is she OK?" Did I hurt Lexi when my powers went out of control?

Without me realizing it, the handcuffs began to crack due to my powers.

"Sweetie, calm down. Lexi is okay," she reassured me.

Tears streamed down my face as I stared into her concerned brown eyes.

"I-I'm a m-monster! H-how can I be calm when I'm a danger to everyone...t-to you!" I shouted, causing the cuffs to explode in a burst of purple lightning.

My powers surged, affecting all the machinery in the room. I heard screams and quickly removed the IV and heart patches from my chest. Weakly, I walked out, glancing at the unconscious otter nurse. She had been so kind. But this was for the best—best that I disappear. The only way to do that...

Lexi's POV

I huffed, grateful my friends were worried about me, but I was fine. I was just reading when my cell rang. I answered it and felt a surge of relief— the poor, terrified panther girl was awake! I thanked Mrs. Sea and rushed out of my room to where everyone was gathered, only to gasp at the sight of them watching the breaking news.
