CHAPTER SEVEN:
SOMEONE LIKE ME

STANDING THERE, A BLINDFOLD PLACED over her eyes, she held the knife delicately in her hands, before throwing her arm back and allowing the knife to fly from her hands and towards the target. At the satisfying sound of the knife digging into the wood, she couldn't help the smirk that fell on her lips as she removed the blind hold from her eyes. The man in front stood there, his eyes wide in fear as he silently pleaded for his life only to let a breath of relief fall from his lips when he saw that the weapon was no longer placed her hands, nor was it impaled into his skin.

"You're getting better and better at that." Dr. Von commented, her heels clicking across the floor as she made her way towards Liliya. The woman examined the blonde Murder House assassin for a moment, before watching as she turned to face Dr. Von. The older woman smiled, proud of what it was that Liliya had accomplished.

"Well, you told me to be ready." Liliya commented, waving the poor man off and watching in amusement as he quickly scrambled from the room, leaving the two alone. Liliya turned her body to face Dr. Von. "I've read up on this Steven Rogers. He's a man way out of his time, isn't he? Over one-hundred years old. How could he have possibly stopped aging, simply because he was plunged into the ice?"

"I believe it would be that serum of his." Dr. Von answered. "The one that gives him amazing strength and agility. He is the first super soldier after all. He's fought aliens, he's fought his supposed best friend. He's been through a lot, so he is trained well, which is why I want you to be better. I don't want there to be so much as a 1% chance of him beating you."

"He won't." Liliya assured. She walked away from Dr. Von, plucking her knife from the wood as she examined it. "He may have fought aliens, but he's never fought me. He doesn't know what he's about to be up against. He may be friends with a Red Room Assassin, but he's not friends with someone like me."

"I like this side of you." Dr. Von smirked in amusement.  The smirk fell from her face as she intertwined her hands together. Liliya noticed her stance change, causing for the blonde to frown as she made her way back over to Dr. Von, twirling her knife in her hand. She cocked her head slightly as she came to a stop in front of the older woman, trying to find out what was wrong.

"Dr. Von, is everything alright?" Liliya questioned. Dr. Von looked at the assassin for a moment before nodding her head. She was trying to decide what it was that she wanted to do. She wanted to take Liliya to the next step, tp the part where the experimentations started, but she didn't want Liliya to fall behind schedule. The woman decided that she would wait for Liliya to kill Captain America for starting on the next step.

"Everything is fine. Get back to training. I don't want to take your time any longer than I already have." Dr. Von offered the assassin a small smile and Liliya only nodded before watching as the woman walked out of the room. Liliya stared at the place where Dr. Von had been just a few seconds prior before shaking her head and turning back to what it was that she was doing.

When she had finished training for the day, she decided that she would take a walk outside. She knew that they would be watching her at all times, they were always watching her and whether or not they knew that she knew they were watching her was something she could care less about. Nonetheless, she allowed her hands to be placed in her pockets as she walked, the sound of the creatures of the night echoing through her ears, and her shoulders seemed to relax because of it.

The night was something that Liliya Petrova had always admired. She knew that there was other life out there beyond earth, and she couldn't but wonder how many planets, how many galaxies there truly were. When people told her there was no such thing as aliens, Liliya would always scoff in disbelief. She couldn't believe that humans were the only ones that roamed the world. And knowing that these so called Avengers fought creatures from another galaxy simply proves that she had always been right, and that factor put a gentle smile on her face.

A soft sigh fell from her lips as she stopped, taking a moment to look up at the stars and connecting the dots where the big dipper was, or where the zodiac signs supposedly lined up. It allowed for the hard, cold, emotionless assassin a moment of peace. It allowed for her to clear her mind from the mission that was at hand, and even though that part of her was supposed to be erased―︎that part of her that was supposed to divert from the mission―︎she couldn't help but allow humanity to seep in for a few moments before she looked from the sky, and turned the assassin part of her back on, making her way back inside so that she could study and memorize Steve Rogers file, and decide what the best way to kill him was.

It allowed for her to clear her mind from the mission that was at hand, and even though that part of her was supposed to be erased―︎that part of her that was supposed to divert from the mission―︎she couldn't help but allow humanity to seep in for...
