"wait a sec, how big?" steve asked, not taking his eyes off of the road.

dustin was sitting in the back of the car, while i was next to steve in the front. "first it was like that," he was showing us how big dart was with his hands. "... now he's like this." dustin extended his hands to make it look like the thing grew bigger.

"jesus i swear to god." steve sighed.

"it's just some little lizard, alright?" i tried to tie this situation up, and end it, but that didn't happen.

"it's not a lizard!"

"how do you know?"

"how do i know that it's not just a lizard?" dustin leaned forward.

"yea how do you know it's not just a lizard?!"

"because his face opened up and he ate my cat!"

steve and i scoffed.

a couple of minutes later, steve broke the silence.

"i'm supposed to be at a dinner right now, not doing whatever this dumb shit is."

i shot steve a look. "yea at my house." i didn't want to be reminded of the dinner we were supposed to be at. i wonder if our parents are wondering where steve is.

we pulled up to dustin's house, and we all got out of the car.

steve popped the trunk open, and it revealed the nail bat, and a small crossbow.

a small smile grew on my face.

steve grabbed the bat, and i quickly took the crossbow. "woah woah woah." steve tried to snatch it from me.

"what?"

"you can't use that."

"why not?" i sassed.

"because you don't know how to use that thing. hell, i don't know how to use it."

"i'm in the police force so i know how to use a gun." i stepped closer to him.

steve frowned. "whatever." he shut the trunk.

the three of us walked to the storm cellar doors.

there was a lock on it.

steve kept poking at it, while i kept raising the crossbow toward it.

nothing was happening.

"i don't hear shit." i complained.

"he's in there." dustin said, quietly.

"alright listen kid," steve pointed his flashlight toward dustin. "... if this is some kind of halloween prank, you're dead."

"it's not. stop shining it in my face."

"you got a key for this thing?" i asked.

we finally got the cellar open.

it was really dark, and it smelled like piss.

steve kept his flashlight on, and was shining it down into the cellar.

"he must be further down there. i'll stay up here just incase he tries to... escape." dustin backed up a little bit as he said that.

steve and i gave him a look, and we both sighed.

steve went first, and i followed behind him.

slowly, we went down the steps into the cellar.

about halfway down, i grabbed steve's hand, and squeezed it.
