we finally made it to the old junkyard.

"oh yea, yea this'll do. this'll do just fine. good call." steve was excited.

i looked over at dustin, and he smiled.

we followed steve to the middle of the yard, and poured the rest of the meat down. we all heard someone yell.

"I SAID MEDIUM WELL!"

the three of us looked in the direction it came from, and it was lucas, and a girl.

that was the girl that billy drove to school.

"whose that?" i asked dustin. i didn't even get a response.

she's the girl dustin was talking about.

we started digging through the old car parts, to find stuff to make a fort.

while i was digging through bus parts, the girl came next to me.

"hi, i'm max." she held out her hand to shake.

"i'm kat, nice to meet you." i shook back.

"so, how do you know dustin?" max asked.

i picked up a giant piece of metal and tossed it. "i babysit him."

"are you that guy's girlfriend?" she pointed to steve.

i blushed, and stuttered. "n-no. we are just-"

"friends? best friends? SOULMATES?" max teased.

"just friends." i smiled, and the looked at steve.

he was holding a chair and sneaking up on dustin and lucas, who were hiding behind a car. steve hit the dusty car with the chair, which caused all of us to jump. "hey, dickheads! how come the ones helping me are kat and this random girl?" steve pointed at me and max. "we lose daylight in like forty minutes, let's go!"

dustin and lucas got up slowly.

"let's go i said!"

"ALRIGHT!"

"jesus christ!" they both complained.

we set up the fort. we took the old bus, and made a door with old metal scraps.

lucas was on top of the bus, keeping an eye out for dustin's creature.

it was dark, and kind of late.

my eyes were slowly closing every minute.

steve was sitting next to me on the broken bus seat.

"here." steve patted his lap.

i looked over at him.

"you can rest here if you want."

i lightly smiled, and rested my head on his lap. i shut my eyes, and tried to sleep, but i was also trying to keep alert of dart.

"so, you fought one of these things before?" max asked.

i felt steve nod his head, and he was playing with the lighter.

he was flicking the cap on and off.

"and you're totally one hundred percent sure it wasn't a bear?" she questioned again.

"well shit, don't be an idiot, ok? it wasn't a bear. why are you here if you don't believe us? just go home." dustin snapped at her.

what a bitch.

"yeesh, someones cranky. is it your bed time?" max snapped back, as she climbed the ladder up to lucas.

"that's good. just act like you don't care." steve said.

i rolled my eyes.

"i don't." dustin responded.

i opened my eyes, because now everyone was fighting i couldn't sleep.

steve winked at dustin.

"why are you winking steve? stop."

steve flicked the lighter's cap up again.

in the next moment, we all heard a screech from outside of the bus. quickly, we all stood up, and looked out of the window, looking for dart.

"do you see him?" dustin asked.

"no." i said.

"lucas?! what's going on up there?!"

"hold on! i've got eyes! 10 o'clock!" he shouted.

we looked in the direction.

"there." steve pointed to the dog looking thing.

it looked slimy, and gross.

"what's he doing?"

"i don't know!" i said.

"he's not taking the bait. why is he not taking the bait?" steve panicked.

"maybe he's not hungry?" dustin said.

"maybe he's sick of cow?" i suggested.

steve stood up, and went for the door.

"steve? steve what are you doing? steve?" dustin asked.

steve turned around, and tossed the crossbow to me.

i caught it with one hand.

"just get ready." he responded.

steve and i slowly moved out of the bus. we were about to fight a creature i thought was fictional in a game. i raised the crossbow, and steve had his nail bat ready to swing. we noticed dart, and started creeping toward him.

"come on buddy." i was trying to get it's attention. "come on buddy! dinner time! human taste better than cat i promise!"

"STEVE! KAT! WATCH OUT!" lucas shouted.

"we're kinda busy here!" steve yelled back, not taking his eyes off of dart.

"THREE O'CLOCK! THREE O'CLOCK!" after lucas yelled that, i looked in that direction, and found another creature.

my breathing pattern was changing. i backed myself into steve, and he held his arm in front of me, protecting me.

"ABORT! KAT! STEVE ABORT! ABORRRT!" dustin screamed.

one of the dog things jumped at me, and i jumped out of the way.

steve whacked one with the bat. he made a run for the bus, picking me up along the way.

"HURRY!"

"COME ON!"

"RUN!" the kids screamed.

we managed to shut the door before they could get in.

i fell on top of steve, and he held me, making sure i was alright.

"HOLY SHIT!"

"are they rabid or something?!" max shouted.

"they can't get in!" lucas yelled.

"IS THERE ANYONE THERE?! MIKE?! WILL?! ANYONE?! WE ARE AT THE OLD JUNKYARD! AND WE ARE GOING TO DIE!" dustin was screaming into his radio.

the bus shook, and there was something crawling on top of it.

max screamed, and i ran quickly to her.

"out of the way!" i pulled her back.

the demon's mouth opened, and it showed all of it's teeth.

"YOU WANT SOME?! COME GET IT!" i shouted while holding the crossbow up to it's mouth, and steve jumped in front of me and the kids.

the next thing we knew, the creature ran away. we all stood there for a minute, trying to process what happened. all of us crept out of the bus, and the door snapped off.

"what... happened?" lucas was shook.

"i don't know-" max whispered.

"steve scared it off?" dustin asked.

"no. no way..." steve said. "they're going somewhere."
