Josette.

I recognize her. Oh, I know Kai. He is the Malachai Parker. The guy from the woods. One of the two guys who put a supernatural everlasting mark on my skin.

The clip was from Josette and Kai were trying to merge.

I forgot about him. Like totally. I had met him more than a couple of times, how did I not recognise him at first glance?

Another clip flashed.

"You are nothing but an abomination," Joshua's face was displayed. His voice echoed in my ears. The scenery of that bloody bastard shoving Kai on the wall with magic. Kai hits his head and falls unconscious on the awfully dirty floor.

Then another one.

He was looking for some toddlers as they ran away.

Another one.

This was us three. Me, Malachai and Josette. Practising magic. Josette taught me a lot of spells, we'd practice magic together while Kai sat around and watch us, sometimes join us.

Another. When I was running from my father I was met with Malachai. Lynch thought Kai was one of my father's men so he attacked him. It was a full moon. He was turning. While pulling the two of them apart, Lynch clawed me and threw me against a tree. When he realized, Lynch was fully turned by then, he lowered his head to me before running away. Preventing himself from causing any more damage. I was unconscious and bleeding. Malachai carried me to a cottage.

I press my fingers harder on Kai's temple. He lets out a scream.

The memory continued.

The injury looked nasty, blood kept oozing out.

"This herb will heal her faster but this will leave a mark," Josette explained.

"I don't care. Stop the bleeding," Malachai yelled.

Josette dipped the herb into a liquid. "The mark will stay forever on her skin," Josette warned. The herb quickly dissolved into the liquid. She handed it to him.

Kai mumbled roughly, "I. Don't. Care," He poured it onto the wound which was right down my collarbone on my left side. It healed a lot faster than expected but it left a red claw mark.

When I opened my eyes, that was the first time I met Josette.

Another memory flashed of me and Josette practising on a vampire. Lynch. We were trying a spell to stop his heart. Kai was watching from a safe distance. I was channelling from Josette. My fingers were dipped into the vampire's chest. Josette's nose had started to bleed. But I kept going. The spell worked. We stopped the heart. And right after the moment, a few men bust open the door and grabbed me.

Josette was undoing the spell on Lynch and Levi came out of nowhere and snapped 2 of their necks. Malachai stood behind the alive ones with a sly smirk plastered on his face. He flicked his hand and all of the men fell to the ground.

Lynch took me and vamp sped out of the cottage.

I never saw Malachai and Josette after that. I was running for dear life.

The memory ended.

I was back in my grandie's library.

I still haven't got the bloody information.

I pressed my fingers harder. A screeching sound left Kai's lips.

A memory played.

"A Bennett," Kai smirked at the grimoire. The page said that we need Sheila Bennett or a Bennett who practices ancestral magic to get out.

Another memory played.

He was pushing a boy's head in the pool. The boy was struggling for air, fighting for life. A few moments later, his body went limp.

Kai killed him.

The memory was interrupted by me running out of magic.

Kai was breathing hard.

"Ah, my brain," he clutches onto his head.

I sit beside him. "We need a Bennett to get out of here. Let's find the ascendant, then a Bennett, who we don't know where to find but we will after like a century and then poof!" I snap my fingers and continued, "We are out of here,"

"Is that all, Gracie?" He asks. A little glimpse of bitterness flashed in his eyes before he blinked them away.

"What else? You knew who I was, what I was and still, you tried to kill me. You knew I was a siphoner witch. You didn't need to siphon from me or watch me when it was a full moon or 'expect' me to use vamp strength. Why did you put up an act?"

"I was making sure if you were actually Hermia or some lookalike, doppelganger. I was praying inside, hoping it's not you. You left us, never looked back, remember? Seems like you have a really bad memory capacity since you didn't remember me. We never met after the night your dad raid our cottage or when Lynch vamp sped you out. It felt pathetic to hold onto the hope that you'd come back. Josette was pathetic enough to hold on to the hope. She is probably still hoping. But look at you, here you are stuck with the evil twin," he evilly smirked. Did he really think I could come back? I was a witch living life like a freaking traveller for my fucking father.

"I am not surprised that you didn't even remember us, you never cared about anyone else, you are selfish. I started to like the thought of you being Gracie and not Mia," I gape out, not knowing what to say. Why is he acting as if he is hurt? We weren't even close. We barely got along

"I wanted to come back but I couldn't. Rhett put a curse on Levi's pack that following year. Because they were keeping me safe, helping me to the hideout. Dad put an offer, if I bow down, submit to him, and no one had to die. He threatened to kill Lynch, Levi, Kayla and anyone who helped me in any kind of way. I did what I did," my voice grew by the passing word.

"What did you do? Ran?" His tone is filled with venom. He stands up on his feet and starts stalling around.

"I submitted," Kai looks surprised but I continue anyway, "I didn't want anyone losing their families for mine. It's my battle, I wanted to face it alone. They took me to the armoury. I was there for a year. Kayla hated me for giving up, for not fighting anymore, for pushing any help away. Lynch and Levi found out that dad wasn't only planning to keep me to the armoury, he was planning to sacrifice me. They plotted to get me out of there. It was a ride or die decision. I chose to live,"

"Pfft. What do you mean sacrifice you? Is that some sort of witchy woo ritual in your coven?" He asks turning on his heel.

"It wasn't coven related. I was the siphoner from Rayna Cruz's everlasting's bloodline,"

"Oh, okay. So what?"

I stand up, pulling a book from the shelf. Turning some pages there were the confirmations about what I was talking about.

"The siphoner from the everlasting's bloodline is the cure to Rayna Cruz's blood. Her blood is poison to witches. If my mother blessed me by giving me her magic and my father sacrificed me, my blood will be the cure," I hand him the book. He reads with his eyebrows creased.
