Akira's green eyes met Historia's. Any other time, the younger girl would've been a welcomed sight, but right now it was hard to tell who's side she was on.
"Eren, Kira, everything's fine. I need you two to listen to me." Easy for you to say, Akira thought to herself in bitter silence, you aren't the one about to be eaten. Regardless of her bitter interior, the eldest Jaeger stopped to listen.
"My father is an ally to humanity within the walls, and he will be for many years to come. We were wrong about him! It's true that he's been a problem for us, and his people killed the Pastor, but he didn't have any other choice!"
If there wasn't a gag in her mouth, Akira might have responded with, "That isn't very reassuring, sweetheart." Instead, she resigned to raising an unimpressed eyebrow.
Another heartbeat and more footsteps echoed through the cave. "Historia, let me explain the rest."
As he walked up the stairs, an uneasy feeling settled in Akira's stomach. She was certain she'd never been here before and yet — her eyebrows furrowed together in confusion — she felt like she'd visited this place over and over in a million different dreams.
She was brought back to reality by two hands connecting with her back. She gasped and jerked away as jolts of electricity jolted through her veins.
Her green eyes widened as they latched onto something that wasn't there. Oh god, I can see everything.
It was like looking up at the night sky and looking past the stars to see life happening on a million different planets all at the same time. A tear strolled down her face as the images continued to flash. So much death, so much destruction... was it truly necessary? Or was that just what humanity craved?
As soon as it had begun, it vanished. Akira slumped forwards, a haunted look in her eyes.
He killed them all, another tear rolled down her cheek, my dad killed those kids so they couldn't steal the power back. Then Eren and I killed him.
More footsteps. This time, she was slower to meet their eyes, but she did it all the same. Everyone else might be too far away to hear Kenny's sound of annoyance, but she wasn't. Her head tilted and her eyes narrowed. Interesting. She knew him. Confusion followed by an understanding floats through her with unrestrained ease.
There would be time to feel guilty later. Right now her goal was simple: survive. If that means getting a mass murderer on her side, so be it.
If she focused hard enough, she could hear the clip-clop of horse hooves and the whirring of wheels. They were close. Levi was close. All she had to do was live long enough for them to unlock her chains. If she transformed while chained to Eren, she could kill him.
Akira's eyes fluttered closed. Just a little longer. All I have to do is wait a little longer.
