CHAPTER NINE

FREEDOM

"You surprised mom there, alright?" I chuckled while we're walking out of the gate. Nasa labas kasi iyong kotse ko.

Sunset suddenly came in our house, which was far from manila. Mas nauna kasi akong makakuha ng leave kaysa sa kaniya so I take it as opportunity to visit my parents here in Pangasinan while waiting for Sunset's leave pero nagulat na lang kami rito sa bahay nang kinagabihan ng pag-uwi ko ay may kumakatok na sa gate ng bahay namin, and our house guards told me that Sunset is here.

"She should be surprised if she saw other woman than me." She answered and clung her arm to me even though we're just few steps away from my car. I opened the passenger seat for her, and held the back of her head as she went inside my car.

Sunset was on her phone, probably replying on her clients. Naka-leave kami pareho sa firm ng kumpanya nila Tricia kung saan kami nagta-trabaho bilang criminal lawyer, but the fact that we are lawyers, our schedules are indefinite. Palaging may emergency. Palaging may nakasingit.

"I told them not to disturb me." Her radiant smile made her eyes squint.

"Mabuti at nakapag-book ka ng flight." I said as I started to drive. She told me that she used a plane from Manila to Pangasinan. She's too lazy and tired to drive more than five-hour ride.

"It was booked even before you knew." She grinned.

I frowned. "My secretary told you again?"

"No." she shook her head.

She opened her bag and pulled out her digicam. I started the engine when Sunset stopped me from doing so.

Our eyes met, and we're both smiling as our eyes met because of what I did. Iyon ang nakunang shot ng camera.

"I visited you once but then you're meeting with a client...so I took a peek on your sched." Aniya nang matapos kaming mag-selfie. The digicam Sunset was holding was solely for the both of us.

Doon naka-store lahat ng picture namin simula nung naging kami back in third year college. Hindi niya iyon inilalabas sa public. She doesn't like spotlights on me knowing that she was a known youtube content creator.

"I was about to surprise you," I frowned. I started to drive. Balak ko pa namang sunduin siya sa office bukas, though we work on the same law firm, I still want to pick up Sunset and take her to a date.

"Surprises doesn't work on me..." she grinned. "And I want to see my mother-in-law."

Napangiti ako. "Was that a proposal?"

"Why? You're not going to marry me?"

"How about you?" I asked back.

"How about you?"

"You?"

"You?" tanong niya pabalik.

Sunset was waiting for my answer until she slowly frowned. I chuckled when she suddenly let go of my hand and she was frowning.
