Death Keeps Knocking on My Door

"So, remembrance day, what a great holiday, huh?" Artemis said, turning to face her best friend.

"Yeah, I love having my dead biological mother brought up right after I had to remove her lifeforce." Josie joked back.

"I thought about writing letters to my parents this year, you know, they may not be dead on a physical level but they most certainly are dead to me," Artemis laughed. This level of sarcasm was something Josie rarely showed to anyone, she was the nice twin after all, but with Artemis, she could always be herself. Before they could continue their sadistic talk, MG came running up to them.

"Artemis I need you," he stated frantically.

"Yeah, a bit too late for that MG, don't you think?" she smirked.

"No, something wrong with Hope," he replied. Her smile fell.

"MG, tell me what's going on and take me there." she panicked. "I'll be right back," she told Josie. As the two exes ran towards the transition spaces, he quickly explained how Hope was stuck in a head dive. She decided that right now was not the time to lecture him on how stupid that was and instead just kept running. He left her alone to walk inside, knowing that he wasn't gonna be of much help.

As she entered the room, Hope opened her eyes. She also noticed that their headmaster was also inside. He got her out of the cell and stormed off, saying something along the lines of "come with me".

"I mean, how could you be so reckless?" he yelled at Hope, as he stormed into his office.

"You weren't getting anywhere," Hope yelled back.

"And so you took it upon yourself? And how did that go?" he questioned.

"Not well," she responded, clearly agitated

"Yeah? Well, I have it under control, Hope." He yelled again.

"Oh? Then you want to explain this?" she said, pulling out an empty liquor bottle from behind his desk. "Or this?" she yelled, pulling out a half-drunk bottle of liquor, "Or anything else that would explain your utter lack of progress?" she continued. Artemis just stood quietly in the corner, as usual.

"I am grieving, Hope," he responded. "And maybe you should try that sometime instead of pushing everyone away." Hope laughed at his comment. "Look, I am trying to protect you. That thing is a master manipulator. It resurrected my fiancée, it raised a cemetery of zombies and it brought back Rafael's dead girlfriend, so let's just talk about the ways in which it could torment you, starting with your dead mother, ending with your dead father," he paused.

"Dr. S, stop." pleaded Artemis. She hated seeing Hope get all of this thrown at her. Their headmaster was supposed to be an adult, they were still kids. Despite her plea, he continued.

"And how about all the ghosts of all the people that you killed in between, huh? I can't believe you'd do this." he angrily ranted.

"Don't do that," Hope yelled, taking a step towards him. "You don't like that I broke your rules as a headmaster? Fine, punish me. But don't you dare play disappointed dad, because you are not my father." she growled.

'Oh, I know that. And where are you going?" he replied

"To finish what I started." she angrily responded, walking out of the room.

"Like hell you are," he stated, going after the young Mikaleson.

"Cloditay." chanted hope, spelling the door shut.

"Hope!" he yelled, hoping for her to open the door. He then proceeded to hit the door, turning around to face Artemis. "What are you still doing here?" he asked, a little bit calmer than before.

"Well one, I wanted to check on Hope, and two, thanks to you we are now both locked in here." she angrily stated.

"Thanks to me?" he questioned.

"You know, you are way too harsh on her. She's 17, Alaric. She lost her parents, everyone sees her as some monster, and now, her only parental figure just treated her like she did something evil. I get that she's a Mikaelson Dr. S, but come on. She's just a kid. She wants answers. She's hurting." she paused. the headmaster didn't respond so she took it as a cue to continue.

"You didn't even ask her how she was. You haven't been bothered to ask any of us. You were so upset that you forgot that we just saved my best friend, your daughter, from suffocating last night. You also forgot the fact that she was just trapped in that thing's mind. Let me know when the spell wears off, I'm gonna pretend you're not here now." she finished her rant. Alaric Saltzman, for the first time that day, was left without any words to say.

If there's one thing Alaric Saltzman knew about Artemis Cuetlachtli, it was that she was stubborn. That was completely shown when she didn't even glance in his direction while on the phone with Dorian. She ignored him when he yelled after hanging up the phone, and she was currently ignoring him cleaning out the empty bottles that once held alcohol. It had been a while, but Hope still hadn't dropped the spell. Artemis was scared that she'd be stuck there forever but was snapped out of her thoughts when the door swung open.

Artemis looked up at the door to see a crying Hope Mikaelson. Her heart ached to see at the sight. Artemis jumped up from her seat and went over to hug the young Mikaelson, holding her as she cried. They stayed like this for a bit before heading over to the library where Hope sat and started writing a letter. THey two girls sat in silence, allowing Hope to focus on writing instead of talking.

They continued their silence as Hope folded her letter into a flower. Artemis silently walked through the woods with hope to the cemetery, where the tribrid set down the letter, on top of a pile where many of their peers had left letters for their lost loved ones. Artemis stood off to the side as Hope talked with Rafael.

While she usually was one to involve herself in every conversation and to constantly try to lighten the mood, the hybrid knew that silence was would best help the tribrid at that moment. She just watched their conversation, that was until the bracelet Hope was wearing started glowing blue. This time she listened in to hear the one sentence that she had been dreading,

"Landon's in trouble."
