an: i wrote this a month ago when i couldn't stop hearing "with her face in the pavement" and thought i'd share. poetry is kind of fun when i'm in the mood for it and i just so happened to be the mood for it here, so i hope you enjoy :)

the latter half of her teenage years were hard

fifteen found her
with a crush on her best friend
and no one to tell

sixteen found her
with her face in the pavement
and no one to stop them from calling her a dyke

seventeen found her
with her love for girls buried deep
and no one to accept her

eighteen found her
with moving away on the horizon
and her best friend hating her

nineteen found her
with money low
and work tugging on her sanity

but her twenties turned everything around

twenty watched her find a roommate
who came with a loud laugh
and acceptance in her soul

twenty-one watched her meet a girl
who smiled big even though her teeth weren't straight
and listened to every one of her words

twenty-two watched her graduate college with a new family
who cheered as they read her name
and she crossed the stage

twenty-three watched her fall in love with the girl
whose smile was not straight
and whose voice was like music to her ears

twenty-four watched her confess to the girl
who was just as attracted to her
and accepted with a smile that reached her ears

twenty-five watched her adopt a dog
who licked her face
and slept in the same bed as her and her girlfriend

twenty-six watched her get engaged to her girl
who asked first with a ring pop in hand
and followed up with a blue raspberry tasting kiss

twenty-seven watched her get married to her girl
who cried through their vows
and laughed at the maid of honor speech

twenty-eight watched her adopt a cat
who meowed at everything
and screeched at her best friend

twenty-nine watched her happily as she found a little girl
who cuddled into her chest
and fell into their life with ease

and life was looking up all over again
