GENERAL COMMENTS

Boy did I struggle with writing Welcome to Heaven (WTH). The most I've struggled with a book, ever.

I rewrote the first half of the book from scratch 5 times. Maybe more. Each time, it turned out wildly different. I could never be satisfied with how I was writing it because the ideas in my head versus what ended up translating onto the page was totally different.

If it wasn't for my good friend who encouraged me at every turn, I'd have abandoned it a long time ago. It never would've been published on this account or completed either,,,

The rest of the book also wasn't remotely easy to write. I rewrote a lot of chapters. Took long breaks. Eventually, I just tossed half of my outline and ideas out the window and took the shortest route I could to the ending.

And sure, it wasn't the type of book I wanted to write (not by a large margin), but I do still like how it turned out.

The central focus on baking was definitely the highlight. I loved researching and drooling over dessert recipes and using them for the storyline. But I'm not exactly a great baker so incorporating those recipes and pretending I knew what the characters were doing was a challenge in and of itself. Half the time I truly didn't know so I hope I made sense xD

I also really liked Kotori's personality. My MC's are never the super bubbly or cheerful type. Typically I make characters like Kotori more of a side character, so it was a nice change. Things got very chaotic at times because of that but it was fun to navigate.

Another really cool thing about this book is that it got featured by a Wattpad ambassador's account! Never thought that would ever happen. Goes to show you're your own worst critic.

RANDOM TRIVIA

────༺༻────

Welcome to Heaven didn't start off as a harem.

Kotori wasn't even supposed to end up with Koyuki at all! Her love interest was Okito.

Koyuki's was Miko.

Chiaki was going to end up with Shiori.

Hayate was going to have unrequited love with Kotori.

Nori. Oh, Nori. He was the character who gave me plenty of sleepless nights lol. He technically was dating somebody in that initial version and while I did like the premise, it felt wrong for his character so I scrapped it and turned him into a flirt (big improvement, I know,,,)

All the characters have a counterpart.

Koyuki & Shiori | breads and cakes
Chiaki & Eru | frozen desserts
Hayate & Ryoma | decoration/specialty pieces
Nori & Kohmi | japanese confections
Kotori & Okito | are general foils

Since they all excelled in similar expertise (and in the case of Kotori and Okito who had the most history together), it was fun making them go head to head in the final round of the competition.

Kotori and Koyuki have the same initials. KT. Thought it was cute how that aligned since it wasn't planned or anything. Like the universe was telling me they were meant to be.

My main inspiration for this book were the songs by HoneyWorks!
