ESZTER UNDERESTIMATED THE CRAVINGS OF A PREGNANT WOMAN. At one point, Wanda was craving pickles; then the next second, Wanda was crying for ice cream.
Now, here Eszter was, walking out of the ice cream parlor with two cones--it wasn't even for her. Wanda was craving ice cream so much, she asked for two. Yeah, Eszter couldn't believe it either, but she was t going to judge a pregnant woman.
"You still think you're not feeding for three now?" Eszter couldn't help but tease as she passed an eager Wanda her cones.
Unusually giddy over ice cream, Wanda hums softly. "Not in a million years," she said even through her smile. Eszter cocked a brow, knowing damn well Wanda has been nesting and snacking for a short amount of time of being pregnant. "I'm not having twins. I'd go crazy."
"I don't know, Wands. Seems like having twins might run in the family."
The sisters start walking down the street where they'd been window-shopping and shopping for baby clothes. Wanda was so excited that she couldn't wait until the gender reveal, but Eszter was worried about her sister overexerting herself.
Shouldn't pregnant women be relaxing at home and not on their feet?
"Well, don't put it out there," Wanda was starting to stress-eat.
Eszter throws her hands up in surrender, chuckling under her breath because she knows it's bound to happen.
"If you do have twins, I don't mind helping you guys with them," Eszter couldn't help but throw in. "Did you guys come up with any names?"
Wanda rolled her eyes, hiding her grin behind her cones. "It's still too early to choose one, but Vis and I have been throwing around some ideas."
"Are you gonna use any Sokovian names?"
"Probably not. I'm thinking of a simple American name."
It was a little sad to see how Americanized they've become. Eszter might've grown up in Sokovia for only thirteen years, but it still counts.
"Are you gonna teach them how to speak the language? Raise them in the culture we used to?"
Eszter doesn't know why she feels so adamant about Wanda teaching her kid(s) about their background. They used to speak Sokovian all the time before they learned English. Living in America, no one speaks Sokovian; Eszter is afraid of losing the language completely because all she speaks is English.
The ability to speak multiple languages is a luxury.
But Wanda shrugs with a look that says, meh.
"Nobody speaks Sokovian here, E. They'd make more use out of learning Spanish more than anything.."
"Isn't that the fun part? Nobody knows what we're saying," Eszter misses speaking her native language; it brings her closer to her parents. "Do you even remember how to speak it?"
Wanda scoffs with an eye roll. "Of course, I do. I have over three years more experience than you," Wanda's American accent bled into her thick Sokovian accent.
"Don't you wanna pass down what our parents taught us? It's keeping their memories alive."
"We're not having this conversation, Essie," Wanda's muscles tensed and her jaw tightened slightly at the mere mention. She looked away.
Wanda started walking faster as if trying to run away from this conversation, but Eszter chased after her.
"Now's the perfect time for this conversation," Eszter couldn't see the look on Wanda's face, and if she could sense her sister's shift of demeanor, or she was ignoring it. "You're about to have a kid soon and you want to deprive them of their heritage."
