George and I are cleaning up after breakfast when there's a knock on the door.
"I'll get it," George says as he kisses the top of my head.
I nod as I pick up our dishes. It wouldn't surprise me if he got the door to avoid cleaning up.
"Mum?" I hear him say at the door. "What are you doing here?"
My ears perk up. What? I'm not prepared to talk to someone's mom right now. That's a whole day of mentally training myself. I can't do this spontaneously.
"Is it bad for a mother to check on her loving son?" she says with a laugh.
"Not at all," he says. I can hear him close the door.
I smooth my hair out and prepare myself as a small woman walks into the room.
"And you must be y/n!" she says with open arms as she walks in.
I return her hug. I make eye contact with George who is trying to stifle a laugh in his hand.
"I've heard so much about you," Ms Davidson says as she pulls away.
I glance at George who turns a shade of red. I won't let him forget that later.
"Do you have any plans today, mum?" George asks.
"Only visiting you," she smiles. "I have a basket of goodies in my car with a blanket from your grandmother. Why don't you go get those?"
George nods as he leaves the room.
"Could I get you some tea or anything?" I ask her once he's gone. I'm not entirely sure what British policies are.
"That would be lovely."
I turn to start making the tea. "Do you live nearby?" I ask. I don't think George has ever mentioned it.
"Not too far," she hums as she looks at the books I have on the counter. "Is this one good?" She picks up one with a red cover.
"It's amazing," I say, "I cried a couple times."
"Good or bad cry?" she smiles.
"Depends on the chapter if we're being honest."
"That's what makes a perfect book." She sets the book down. "Do you like living here with George? I know he sleeps an awful lot."
I laugh. "I like it, although he does sleep a lot." I pour the tea into a cup. "I'll sadly be leaving soon once my passport comes in though."
She nods, then rests her chin in her palm. "Have you talked to George about leaving?"
My brow furrows. "What do you mean? He knows I'll go back to the states eventually." I hand her the mug.
"He's a guy, y/n." she laughs. "They don't get it unless it's right in front of them."
I shrug. "We still have a little bit. I don't think it would be too hard."
I hope so at least. I bite the inside of my cheek as I think. George doesn't think I'll stay in London because of him, does he?
"I just want to prepare you," she smiles as she hears the front door open again. "I don't want you guys to break up over a misunderstanding."
My heart beats hard as George walks in. He sets a basket of cookies in front of us.
"Mum, you really outdid yourself." He walks to my side and nudges me a bit. "Wait till you taste her baking."
Does George's mom think we'll break up once it's a long distance relationship?
We haven't exactly talked about it. I guess it's just one of those things that we figured we'd get to when we get to it. I guess that's a mentality I should keep.
I push it out of my mind for future y/n to worry about.
We end up talking to Ms. Davidson for a really long time. She tells stories of George when he was young. She's a really sweet lady. I can see the similarities between her and George.
They have the same hair color and smile. They both laugh the same way at their own jokes.
"Well, I must get going," she says after a while, reaching for her purse. "I have to go to get some groceries."
"We'll walk you to the door," George smiles.
"It was lovely to meet you, y/n," she says, "I'll see you both very soon."
"Bye Mum," George says as we wave goodbye.
He shuts the door as she drives off.
George turns to walk to the kitchen already knowing what I'm going to ask.
I follow close behind his heels. "You talk to your mom about me?" I say with a little smile.
"Shut up," he turns a shade of pink as he picks up a glass from the table.
"She really sold you out," I say with a sigh as I sit down. "But it's okay. I think it's cute."
He rolls his eyes. "I don't know what you're talking about."
I hand him a mug for the dishwasher. "Your blush says otherwise."
He shakes his head as he places the mug in the dishwasher. "I can't believe she said that to you."
"So it is true?" I lean my chin into my hands.
"Whatever."
That means it's true.
I smile to myself. There's really nothing to worry about at all. George and I are going to be just fine, even if we're long distance.
I don't know why I was even worried for a second.
