||Chapter twenty two- Dinner gone wrong ||

After Madeleines injury was seen by Espresso he was furious, he couldn't do anything since his parents were rich nobles and who knows what would happen to Espresso. They finished getting ready and walked down to the dining hall, they opened the large double doors to reveal a grand feast on a long table, Espresso could feel his stomach growl and they both sat down Madeleine greeting members of his family bluntly while Espresso looked around at all the family photos. Genoises and Pound cakes' faces looked so sour, Espresso knew that look from their childhood when they would play and he would notice the glares. Genoise walked in surprisingly laid back, was she planning something? Butlers gave everyone a drink but Espresso was too busy eating to notice that the atmosphere felt bizarre almost as if something or someone was conspiring something. Espresso took a few sips of his drink and carried on eating till he took another sip, instantly feeling a sharp ache all over his body making him drop the glass, the room went silent and everyone looked at him with disapproval "Espresso, are you ok?" Madeleine asks looking concerned "I'm..fine" he places his hands on his head and scrunches up in the chair "Espresso you don't look too-" The brunette looks up and something was different, his eyes were bright purple "Espresso- is your soulstone ok?" Madeleine asks, fearing that it may be damaged, Genoise on the other hand is smiling, her plan was playing out very well. Espresso reached to feel his soulstone but it wasn't intact. It was completely shattered "It's shattered. But how?" Espresso asked as his voice began to distort. Madeleine instantly grabbed Espressos drink and noticed a bizarre shimmer to it "Poison." Madeleine looks at Genoise and stands up storming over to her as he could hear Espressos cries of pain coming from behind him "Mother what did you do. What did you do. Why? Why did you do this?!" Madeleines eyes narrow as he shouts at his mother, Genoise stands up and slaps Madeleine around the face but this time she had a fire spell in her hand. She burnt Madeleine "Ah- Madeleine! Help!" Espresso called from the other side of the room, his voice distorting more as his appearance changed

Madeleine ran over to see Espresso bent over sobbing quietly "Espresso?" Madeleine placed a hand on his back as Espresso looked up, his skin jet black and dripping off with a sinister sharp-fanged smile on his face "Whats wrong Madeleine?" He said as Madeleine took a step back but fell onto the floor with a loud thud, catching Espressos attention as he slinked over unhuman like getting ontop of Madeleine (stereotypical switches rn🙄✌🏼) flashing his pointed teeth he lifts his now claw like hand up but his attention shifts to Genoise. He stands up to reveal his now very slender height and walks over to her calmly, twisting his limbs with the same smile on his face, She runs off as Espresso chases her Madeleine following shortly behind. They all run into the library but Espresso falls onto the floor and begins shaking "Is anybody...?" A timid voice asks as a maid pops around the corner "Uhm I hate to be a bother but I-I think I know what's going on." "Explain, please." Madeleine asks distressed "When a cookie is corrupted they have a short rush of bloodlust before they shift into a state of critical condition." The maid replies fiddling with her hands "Well how can we help him?" Madeleine shouts as Espresso shakes more, sobs escaping from his mouth "Madeleine, I don't want to die. I don't..want..to." Espresso whispers in his normal voice, "You have to remind the cookie in question of who they are." The maid says as she steps out from behind the bookcase. Madeleine thinks for a second before rushing over to Espresso and lifting his head up "Remember the masked ball? When I was too drunk to even stand and you had to bring me home?" Espresso looks at the other confused "Or when we had to do that quest for the puppet show?" "And at the costume party when you had too much to drink?" A smile began to form on Espressos face "Or when we got lost and you ended up getting drunk in some random village?" Madeleine giggled recalling the event "And then you avoided me..?" Espresso asked a bit more upset "But do you remember when you confronted me about it?" Madeleine smirked as Espresso smiled again "Yeah.." His corrupted form started to change and become more recognisable "And when I did this?" Madeleine pulled Espresso in for a kiss as he changed back to normal wrapping his arms around his back, they pulled away. "Yeah." "MADELEINE! WHAT IS THE MEANING OF THIS!" Genoise pipes up, the two forgetting she was there. Madeleine picks up Espresso bridal style "Fuck off, mom." Madeleine flips Genoise off and walks out the house and boarding the next boat home
