The next morning Derek and Meredith were still in bed. Derek woke up early and already had showered and dressed himself but climbed back into bed to wait until Meredith was done. By now Amelia and Mark had joined them too

Ellis was gonna visit them today to see Meredith again. Chances were pretty high that Meredith had forgotten about it already, she was too vulnerable to pay a lot of attention to what day it was

When she finally woke up, the other three said good morning and handed her some juice and her meds

"Your mom is coming over today" Amelia told Meredith "I think she'll be here any minute"

"Hmm.." Meredith groaned "I'm too tired" She complained and didn't hear Carolyn walking inside

"Hey guys" She smiled softly "Breakfast is ready if you want"

"Yes!" Mark laughed and ran downstairs, quickly followed by Amelia

"Derek, I'll help her get dressed and we'll meet you downstairs" His mom said quietly and watched him leave "Okay Meredith, let's get you up" Carolyn smiled and helped Meredith as she pushed herself up

"Is my mom coming today?" Meredith asked, knowing there was always a chance that Ellis canceled due to surgery

"She called me, she's on her way" Carolyn said softly as she helped Meredith strip out of her pajamas and into warm sweats "Scarf or a hat?"

"Scarf will be good" Meredith nodded. Carolyn wrapped Meredith's favorite scarf around her head, the one she had gotten from Derek a few days ago. It was a beautiful dark green with brown details

"Okay, honey. Are you ready to go downstairs?" Carolyn asked as she saw Meredith was already exhausted

"Y-Yeah" Meredith sighed. Carolyn helped her down the stairs, right to the couch where she curled up underneath some warm blankets. Derek, Amelia and Mark quickly joining her

"Are you still texting that girlfriend of yours?" Amelia joked as she took Mark's phone out of his hands

"Why would you care" Mark grabbed his phone back

"Addison" Meredith muttered as she looked at his phone while he and Amelia were arguing

"No- I.. Okay" Mark rolled his eyes

"Addison?! The mega hot redhead, super rich and super smart Addison?" Amelia laughed

"Yes" Mark just replied before pulling his attention back to his phone

"Markie isn't just screwing her, they're really texting" Meredith whispered to Derek

"Seems like it" Derek laughed as he noticed Meredith's eyes started closing again. It didn't take long before her very soft snores filled the room, she mush have been exhausted again

When the doorbell rang, Carolyn quickly opened it, revealing Ellis Grey

"She's currently asleep on the couch, maybe we can wait until she wakes up? Do you want some coffee?" Carolyn suggested

"Yes, black and no sugar please" Ellis replied and looked into the living room. Amelia was taking a shower while Mark was in his room calling with his girlfriend, leaving Meredith and Derek on the couch

"Hi Dr Grey" Derek smiled softly

"Hello" Ellis replied and stared at her daughter. She ran her fingers softly over Meredith's forehead before pulling away again and walking over to the kitchen. Derek sighed, he just couldn't understand the struggle Ellis had with herself, how could anyone not love a daughter like Meredith

"Here you go" Carolyn placed the cup of coffee in front of Ellis and joined her at the table

"So.. How's she doing, medically?" Ellis asked

"She's weak. Chemo took everything from her, radiation is going okay. We only could take her home when the other kids wouldn't come in contact with many other people" Carolyn sighed

"What about her treatment?" Ellis asked

"Her scans are next week. If she's in remission then she'll get one week of constant chemo to completely shut out her immune system and then she'll undergo the bone marrow transplant" Carolyn explained

"Is the donor still available?" Ellis asked

"Yes. It's someone from the databank" Carolyn looked up at Ellis

"Okay" Ellis nodded

"I think she's happy that you're still trying" Carolyn said after a few minutes of silence

"Mom?" Derek walked in

"Derek, dear. What's wrong?" Carolyn asked

"Mer is awake. She's just using the bathroom" He told his mom

"Okay son, we're gonna be there in a minute" Carolyn nodded "She's weak and quiet and pale but just.. just try" Carolyn said against Ellis as they stood up and made their way to the living room. Meredith was getting back on the couch, her head resting on Derek's chest, her eyes closed

"Meredith?" Ellis whispered

"Oh- Mom, hi" Meredith smiled softly as she watched Ellis taking a seat on the opposite couch

"Hi" Ellis said awkwardly

"Meredith, do you need anything?" Carolyn asked

"I-It's okay" Meredith breathed

"How have you been?" Ellis asked

"It's been okay" Meredith nodded and grabbed a fistful of Derek's shirt

"I hope you'll reach remission" Ellis quietly said as she gave Meredith a soft smile

"Yeah" Meredith breathed

"I brought you something" Ellis said as she reached in her bag "I don't know if you feel up to it but- I don't know" Ellis handed Meredith a small suture kit

"Thanks" Meredith cracked a smile "Travel size"

"I hope you like it"

"Yeah. Thanks mom" Meredith smiled softly before she started yawning. Derek brushed his hand over her neck and started massage it softly

"I should go" Ellis stood up

"Thanks for coming over" Meredith smiled one more time

"I enjoyed coming over" Ellis looked at Meredith "Carolyn, thanks for having me over"

"No problem, we were happy you were able to make it. Feel free to come over another time" Carolyn smiled softly

"Thank you. Bye Meredith, bye Derek" Ellis said before walking out

"You enjoyed it?" Derek asked Meredith

"Yeah" She breathed and fell asleep even before Carolyn had returned

"She's asleep" He told his mom

"Let her sleep. She's exhausted" Carolyn tucked in Meredith and Derek with blankets and kissed them both on their foreheads "I'll go see if Amy and Mark haven't killed each other" She sighed before chuckling a bit and disappearing upstairs, leaving Derek and Meredith alone. He wrapped his arms tighter around her and just held her close
