Oh shit. Oh fuck
I get overwhelmed by the fear and dread I'm feeling, how could I be this stupid? Elías is probably gonna get me killed and I'm walking right beside him towards my own death
I look up at him and slow my walk, thinking maybe I can get away if I run fast enough. But I know I'm nothing against him
My eyes fill with heartbreak and my body shakes with the knowledge that once again I'm trapped with no way of saving myself
"Nova calm the fuck down" Elías whispers and grabs my hand but I flinch away, halting my steps
He glances at me and his eyes widen when he realizes I'm afraid of him. Looking for any way to run away from him because I know he's here to get rid of me
"Nova you need to listen to me, I'm not the enemy here and I need you to keep fucking walking. Trust me on this please or you'll get us both killed" he snaps and I flinch again
My body is present but my mind is elsewhere
Rough hands pinning me down. Rune's screams. Pain. Despair. So much pain
"Stay still and take it"
"Watch me ruin you for them"
"Shut up"
Elías voice snaps me out of the memories. I can't hear what he's saying but I feel him shaking me and I hear the slight desperation in his voice
"Star. They're watching. They'll attack if they so much as sense that we know they're there. They won't risk letting us get away even if it means shooting us out in the open" he explains with a deadly calm I know he's acquired by years and years of practice
"I'm not gonna hurt you" he tries and for some reason I believe him
He seems to relax a tiny bit when I start walking again, in a daze with tears brimming in the corners of my eyes, but I'm walking
"Who are they?" I ask
"I'm not sure, I just know something's off and if they have anything to do with the Alistairs we're in real danger"
We pass the first turned off lamppost and I notice the broken glass on the street. I still don't know what Eli's plan is but I don't like it and I'm beyond terrified
"Odds are, they'll try to take us instead of killing us right here. Just play along, if we run they won't hesitate to shoot" Eli whispers and it's barely audible despite being so close to my ear
"Weird. Power must've gone off around here" he says louder
"I'd turn my flashlight on but my phone died a few minutes ago" I say somehow managing to keep the shaking out of my voice
"What you're scared of a little darkness star?" He teases, unlike me, he's doing a great job pretending in this situation
