Fast and Furikious

Silence didn't last long in the dorm's kitchen.

"It's not like you have a say in this anyway" said Niki, frustrated.
"Uh, yes we do" replied Sunoo right away.
"Isn't it too dangerous?" asked Jungwon. "Plus do you really need it."
"Dangerous?" replied Niki. "But I'm not a kid anymore."

"Guys, it's true" said Jay, taking Niki's defense. "You all can't protect him forever."
"You're the one saying that?" replied Sunghoon, laughing. "You cried when he officially became an adult."

"Hey, I told you that in confidence" said Jay, shocked that Sunghoon would say that out loud.

"Thank you Jay" finally said Niki.

He looked at all the members one by one.

"I'm quite disappointed... I came here to share cool news with you all and you turned against me" he explained. "Only Jay is on my side."

"I'm sorry you feel that way, but you know that driving is dangerous right?" said Jake.
"Everyone drives" said Niki. "Why can't I too?"

The members looked at each other, trying to make up their mind.

"Absolutely not" said Jungwon, putting an end to the discussion.

Niki woke up to his alarm ringing next to him. He hated this kind of dream, between nightmare and good dream. He sighed.

Maybe I just shouldn't tell them and start my driving lessons in secret.

As he was about to get up, a hand grabbed his shirt.
"You're up ?" he asked, turning his head.
"Of course I am, your alarm is so loud it woke up Enegene in Europe" replied Sunoo.
"I love you too" said Niki, leaning to kiss Sunoo's forehead.

"You get away with it this time mister" said Sunoo, making himself a cocoon of blanket.
"I'll see you later" replied Niki, waving at his boyfriend.

"Hyung, can I talk to you?" asked Niki.
"Sure" said Jay, putting his phone down.

Niki sat next to him on the living room's couch.

"There's something I've been wanting to do, and I think it's time" he started. "But I want it to be a surprise for the other members."
"If you want it to be a surprise, why are you telling me?" asked Jay, intrigued.
"Well" replied Niki, passing his hand on his hair. "I would like to learn how to drive. Would you teach me?"

Jay raised his eyebrows.

"I already have my learner's permit" said Niki. "I just need someone to show me."

Jay seemed a bit confused.

"Please?" added Niki, making the best puppy eyes he could.

"Promise to do as I'll tell you" said Jay, in a serious tone.
"I promise" replied Niki calmly.
"Let's do this" said Jay, smiling.

Jay had driven them until an empty parking spot. Niki stayed silent the whole ride, paying attention to every mouvement Jay did.

"Okay so, first let me tell you some stuff, then you'll try, okay?" asked Jay.
"Sure" answered Niki right away.
"First rule, if I say stop, it means stop" said Jay. "Then, you only get to go faster when I'll tell you to."

Niki nodded.

"Okay, let's change seats" said Jay.

Niki sat in the driver's seat and Jay showed him how to turn on the car, how to listen to the car's sound to know when to change gears and so on.

They spent the whole morning practicing just starting the car and getting familiar with it.

"I think you're good for today" said Jay. "How did it feel?"
"So awesome!" replied Niki, excited. "Can't wait to actually drive on a road."
"I understand" said Jay. "You'll see, nothing beats driving with music fully on."

Niki's eyes got filled with stars in an instant.

"Wanna grab a bite?" suggested Jay.
"Can we get taiyaki?" asked Niki, suddenly craving them.
"Of course" replied Jay, smiling. "We need to celebrate your first practice!"

"You're right" said Niki, sitting on the passenger's seat.

They drove away, stopping in front of Niki's favorite Japanese restaurant. They got inside and ordered the food.

"I'm surprised" said Niki, as they waited for their snacks.
"About what?" asked Jay.
"You didn't even scream once" explained Niki.

Jay looked at the maknae with an annoyed face.
"I'm just teasing you Hyung, you don't scream that much anymore" admitted Niki. "At least not when Jungwon is there."

Jay raised his eyebrows.
"Are you done yet?" he asked, laughing.

However, Niki didn't get time to answer, their taiyaki had arrived.

"I'll stop teasing" promised Niki.
"Good" said Jay, as he paid for the food.

"I was wondering" started Jay once they were back in the car. "Why did you ask me to teach you? Sunghoon and Jake also drive."

Niki remembered his dream. He still felt uncomfortable because of it.

"I had a feeling you would support me" said Niki, before explaining the whole dream.
"I get it now" replied Jay, nodding.

"I should thank your unconsciousness for trusting me this much" added Jay.

"Actually, I am the one who should thank you for always believing in me" said Niki, smiling at his older brother.
