chapter twenty five

"Mmkay, still walking, all's good. Huh. Mmkay." Lorelai commented.

"How are you two?" Camille asked.

It was the day after Stars Hollow's annual dance marathon.

"I should probably keep moving." Lorelai replied.

"God, my feet have never been in this much pain before." Rory answered.

"Oh yeah, what about that time?" Lorelai questioned

"What time?" Rory inquired.

"The time when I did the thing and your feet were . . .gotta stop." Lorelai gave up.

"Gotta sit." Rory agreed.

The mother and daughter sat on a block of hay and started chatting. Camille spotted Jess in the window of Luke's. He waved at her so she waved back.

"Just an observation." Lorelai shrugged. "you and I do not function well on a funky sleeping pattern."

"I feel jet-lagged." Rory complained.

"You've been up twenty-four hours straight." Camille pointed out.

"Yes, why did I do that?" Rory asked.

"Because I asked you to." Lorelai grinned.

"And that worked?" Rory questioned.

"At the time. I don't expect it to again." Lorelai responded.

"A realist, I like that." Rory joked.

"How far is Luke's?" Lorelai inquired.

"It's right over there." Camille answered.

"It looks far." Lorelai whined.

"Very far." Rory added.

"Maybe if we concentrate really hard, our combined psychic powers will move it closer." Camille joked.

"Hi." Jess smiled at his girlfriend when she walked through the door.

"Hey." Camille grinned back.

"Hi." Jess said to Lorelai.

"Hi." Lorelai replied.

"Hi." Jess turned to Rory.

"Hi." Rory responded.

"Rory and I have to get to school." Camille told her boyfriend.

"Yeah, me too." Jess nodded.

"Bye." Camille smiled.

"Bye. Bye." Jess repeated.

"Bye." Lorelai waved.

"Bye." Rory started to leave the dinner.

Luke, Lorelai and Rory exchanged their goodbyes.

"That was awkward." Rory stated when she and Camille were out of the diner.

"It was." Camille agreed.

"That's never happened before." Rory added.

"It hasn't." Camille nodded.

"Why did it happen then?" Rory asked.

"I don't know, probably because me and Jess haven't talked in a while and Delaney and Dylan have just died so he probably doesn't know what to say to me." Camille explained.

"Probably." Rory agreed.
