24. Bucharest

" Its time I head out, ill send you back to Romania, keep yourself low" the woman instructed

"Where are you headed?" The soldier asked watching her closely

The woman paused as she grabbed her bags

"Its personal" she said shortly as she dissapeared inside the bathroom

Barnes stood from the bed

"So you can't tell me?" He asked jaw slightly clenched, his eyes not meeting hers. He thought she trusted him

Noticing, the nemesis breathed in. She sighed gently dropping the items in her hands, she walked towards him

"Its not that I can't tell you" she said softly her hands cupping his face "I dont know what ill find, or what im looking for, I just know I have to go"

Still receiving silence she continued
"Theres battles we must fight on our own, and this ones one of mine"

Barnes eyes met hers

"Are you coming back?" He asked, but before she could reply he cut her off "for us?"

She breathed shakingly her hands dropping from his face

Barnes face dropped

"What we are is something we yet don't know....but just know I'll always be there for you" she stated

Barnes swallowed as he faced away from her

She watched him closely

"Whenever you can't sleep, ill be there in your mind to clear everything away.Whenever you need somewhere to go ill take you in"

Barnes placed his hands against the counter, his breathing getting quicker as he tried to ignore her words

She gently walked towards him

"And whenever you cant remember.....ill be there to remind you" she said softly as she took his metal hand on hers trying to meet his eyes

Barnes met her gaze as her arms wrapped around him

"Tell me you'll come back" he whispered his nose brushing against hers

"James" she breathed out as she leaned her  forehead against his
"Please" he whispered softly

She reamined silent as she kissed him with everything she had, as if breathing is out of style.  She didn't reply, she just hoped that kiss was an answer for them both

Bucharest

A silver mist appeared in an alleyway. The soldier appearing through it.
Barnes gaze flickered as he analyzed his surroundings. His hands clenched tightly as the mist he came through faded. His face remained blank.

Sighing gently he made his way into the crowd
He walked around the market and paused as he saw a familiar fruit, plums.

He finished speaking with the vendor and walked away. As he waited for the road to clear he noticed a man across the street watching him closely

Swallowing gently he made his way towards him, noticing this the man rushed away, he hurried his steps. He picked up a newspaper, his body straightened as he read the cover. He clenched his jaw and sighed. So much for staying low

Steve Rogers walked around the empty apartment. He looked around closely his hand gripping his shield tightly. He noticed a book on top of the fridge.

He picked it up and flipped through pages, finding a picture of himself

"Heads up cap, german special forces approaching from the south" the voice of sam Wilson sounded from his earpiece

With his eyes never leaving the book he replied "understood"
Feeling a presence behind him he turned. Bucky.
He straightened "you know me?"

Barnes watched him closely as he replied "You're Steve, i read about you in a museum"

"I've set the perimeter " Steve gently placed the notebook in the table

"I know you're nervous, you have plenty of reason to be" he stated "but you're lying "

Barnes pursed his lips " I wasn't in Vienna, I dont do that anymore" he answered

"Their entering building " Wilson warned. Steve gulped and glanced out the window as he walked towards him
"Well the people who think you did are coming here now " Steve warned "and their not planning on taking you alive"

"Thats smart, good strategy " Barnes answered simply as he slowly walked away from him

"Their on the roof im compromised " Sam informed

Steve breathed quickly
"This doesn't have to end in a fight buck"

Barnes walked gently

"It always ends in a fight" he replied

"5 seconds"
"You pulled me from the river" Steve said "why?"
Barnes pulled off his glove revealing his metal hand
"I dont know " he answered meeting his eyes
"3 seconds "

Steve swallowed "yes you do"
Barnes face became serious
"Beach breach" Wilson shouted as a bomb was thrown into the window, Steve quickly pushed it away with his shield

A second bomb landed on the floor, Barnes kicked it and Steve covered it with his shield, capturing the explosion

Soon a fight broke out as agents broke into the room, Barnes quickly took them down and headed towards the window

"Buck stop! You're gonna kill someone " Steve shouted, Barnes flipped him into the ground. His fist piercing the floor next to his head

"I'm not gonna kill anyone " he said as he pulled out a bag and threw it at the roof of the neighboring building

Before they could react gunshots were fired at him, Steve quickly protected him with his shield. Barnes grabbed him and threw him against and agent through the window and quickly took the agents down and reached the stairs. As Steve got on his feet, he fixed the hold on his shield. He clenched his jaw and breathed deeply. No matter how hard it could be, he would save him.
