This will be a first.
Hobi configured the brilliant plan of having a couple's night at Jungkook's and invited Seokjin and me. He will be there with Mae, Jungkook will have Chohae and even Jimin is bringing a date. This is definitely a first.
Hobi and I talked about this a few weeks before he pitched the idea to Jungkook. Even though Seokjin and I are together, I admitted to Hobi my evenings would get a little emotional, sometimes thinking of Taehyung, especially when we were all together.
Taehyung wasn't just someone who I slept with. He was my long-time friend. My worst fears came true the minute I blurred the boundaries of our friendship and now we're strangers. It's for the best, but it still hurts. My thoughts traveled to what ifs if things played different, but I shouldn't self inflict myself with guilt. I pray for him all the time and have faith he's on a journey of happiness.
I glanced over at Seokjin, who seem to have a hard time deciding what shirt to wear as I slipped on my earrings. He's been spending a lot of time at my place while his is undergoing the last phase of redecoration at his home. He still hasn't allowed me to see what he's changed. "Seokjin, what are you doing?" I tilted my head with a perched brow.
He turned to me. "Blue or red?" He asked, his face covered in worry.
I stood up and eased over to him. "It doesn't matter. You will look handsome regardless of what you wear. It's not like you're meeting my parents. It's just my friends." I smiled, wrapping my arms around him.
Seokjin leaned in and kissed the top of my nose. "They are your family, River, and I sense the little young one doesn't like me."
I suppressed my grin. "Well..." Seokjin's thick brow hiked as I began my explanation. "He's like the overprotective brother I've never had. Don't worry about him. You're friends with Hobi and you will meet Jimin." I smiled, actually giddy about the meeting. "My friends will welcome you, I promise." I assured.
Seokjin's expressions grew still. "What about Taehyung? Won't he be there?" He asked.
My stomach drooped in nerves. Taehyung's name hasn't come up in conversation since we've been together. I would rather leave the past where it is, but it tended to rear it's annoying head. "Taehyung's in Daegu. He moved back home." I answered, my voice firm, hoping it wouldn't stir any further explanation.
"Hm," Seokjin hummed. "Well, I wish him the best." He smiled.
"So do I." I grinned wider to shake off the nerves. "The blue one. I love you in blue."
Seokjin kissed me. I don't think I will ever get enough of this. "Blue it is."
Moments later, we arrived at Jungkook's. I took Seokjin's hand in mine as we entered it the building. I found his nervousness cute, though I assured him he had nothing to worry about. If anything, he had Hobi, though I have a theory he and Jimin would get along without a hitch. There is something about Seokjin that reminded me of Jimin. I'm not sure yet if I should worry.
I rang the doorbell and Chohae answered. We greeted her as we walked in. She's a sweet girl and I enjoying seeing Kookie happy. He deserved someone who kept him grounded and I think he's found the one. Jungkook joined her, wrapping his arm around her waist and smiling. "You made it!" He greeted, eyes on Seokjin.
"Yes Kookie," I smiled, turning to Seokjin. "Jungkook, Chohae, this is Kim Seokjin, my boyfriend." I introduced. And baby's father. I thought, snickering to my inner mocking.
"Nice to meet you, officially." Seokjin bowed to them and extended his hand to Jungkook. I watched the exchange, eyeing Kookie for him to be on his best behavior.
Jungkook reciprocated the handshake. "That's a firm grip you got," Seokjin noted to Jungkook.
My overprotective 'brother' smirked. "Same to you," he replied. They released hands. "Make yourselves at home," he stated. I simmered my stare to Jungkook and took Seokjin's hand, leading him into the home to greet the others. "What?" Jungkook mouthed. His gaze innocent like a doe in headlights. I ignored him and met Jimin.
Introducing Seokjin to Jimin was much easier. Jimin introduced us to his date, Miko, a Japanese-American he met through his travels. The way Jimin blushed around her told me she would stick around for a while.
Seokjin and I walked into the kitchen to greet Hobi and Mae. Seokjin handed Hobi the bottle of wine he brought for him and they began their own conversation, leaving Mae and me in the dust. We both shook our heads and walked out of the kitchen and into the seating area where the other couples were.
"He seems familiar, River. Why do I feel as if I know him?" Mae asked.
I sighed, debating how much I should reveal to Mae. It seemed as if she and Hobi were serious about each other this time around, and I'm sure she will hear about it eventually. Though, I had to commend Hobi for not spilling any secrets. He's a keeper. "Remember Mrs. Kim, my patient?" Mae nodded. "He's her grandson."
Mae's eyes widened. "Oh." She grinned. "Hm, nice catch." She teased.
I chuckled. If only Mae knew what I endured with this 'catch'. "Thank you. He's a good guy."
Before Mae replied, Chohae ran up to us. "Oh my God, River, congratulations on the baby! Jungkook just told me." She exclaimed.
Well, at least one of them could keep a secret. "Thank you Chohae."
"You're pregnant? With Seokjin's..."
I interrupted Mae with a nod before she could even finish her statement. My pregnancy isn't something I wanted to be a topic of discussion for the night, so I excused myself and went into the kitchen with Hobi and Seokjin. Hobi noticed the look on my face. "What is it? Something wrong with the hor d'oeuvre?" He asked.
"Kookie told his girlfriend about the baby and now they are all giddy. I had to escape." I whispered, hoping not to draw any attention to my subtle gossip.
Hobi laughed. "Get used to it, River. There is a baby coming in the family and we are all excited." He beamed.
I rolled my stare to the ceiling. Seokjin snuck behind me, hugging me close to him. He rested his hand on my belly and kissed my cheek. "This baby doesn't know how lucky it will be." He whispered.
"Doesn't it?" I turned to him, kissing him on his lips.
"Please, not in the kitchen," Hobi commented, but I didn't dismiss the grin on his face. He's happy for me and I felt it. I even sensed it from Jungkook and Jimin. Knowing this made me smile.
"We'll leave, but I'm hungry. Hurry!" I teased him as Seokjin and I left the kitchen and walked back into the living area.
