Vera's mouth hung open in horror as she took in the image. Sitting on the bed was something that looked like a large humanoid cockroach; vera hated roaches with every fibre of her being. It had a rope-like neck that swayed left and right and a head that didn't fit with the rest of the body; round, yellow and noseless with black and red beady eyes. It was dressed in her sister's pink ball gown and showing all its teeth in what could hardly be called a smile.

"You can seee me" it said standing up and twirling round and round like a ballet dancer. Its voice sounded like that of someone who was just withholding a smile

"Kiss me ..... kiss me ..... kiss me" the thing repeated over and over, coming closer to vera with its spindly insect-like arms out. Just as it almost reached her Vera finally gained enough composure to jump backwards.

It looked at Vera like it had been slapped, a look that communicated a complete sadness . In a different world vera would have felt guilty for jumping away from him. Just when she thought it had stopped for good it giggled and charged again, its spindly legs moving even faster than before.

Vera brought the mopstick down on its neck, happy that she had brought a trusty weapon along for the party. She had originally aimed for the head but she could just not bring herself to do it , she kept imagining the head bursting and covering her with brain and blood.

"Awww" it said sadly "i just thought you would like a kiss" it said just as it's head exploded. Blood and something white and slimy burst from its head as Vera closed her eyes as she waited for it to cover her like she imagined

She opened her eyes to see it smiling at her, even wider than before. Its head was completely intact

"Who are you?" Vera asked in a voice that dripped with false confidence

"who am i" it said, looking up as if deep in thought "who am i... who am i" the thing repeated seeming to move closer to her with every repeat . He stopped suddenly with a final "who am i" just when he was close enough to touch her

It was at this moment that she realised that she was in a typical horror novel situation. She started to feel less scared, she knew all the cards

It had been a mistake to ask it a personal question, they never knew the answer to that in books. She came to a conclusion that the best thing to do was to act unconcerned, being scared is the worse thing you can do in a horror book

"Okay okay, just kill me already," she said. Vera knew monsters never granted this request

"Kill you?" it said, the old smiling quality had come back to his voice "Not today, you're the only one who'll be doing the killing here"

The covers of her sister's bed slithered open to reveal her sister still sleeping. "What was it with her sister exactly? , why always her?" Vera thought

"You can't wake up till you kill her," the thing said and started to twirl again

"Then so be it," vera said and meant it "I'll stay here forever"

"No you won't," it said and disappeared.

Vera heard a great buzzing of wings and cockroaches of all shapes and sizes started to pour into the room through the windows as the thing laughed in the distance
