Chapter 5: Four Birds with One Stone

Maya made an OK lunch.

The rolled omelettes were a little overcooked, the white rice was just ... rice, and the marine animal-shaped sausages looked cute.

As you picked up an octopus, you looked up to find her doe eyes staring at you, waiting.

You ignored her and took a bite. A little sweet, but fine.

"D-do you like it?" She asked expectantly, voice cracking.

"I prefer sausages that are well-done."

Her imaginary puppy ears fell.

You quickly added, "But I did like the eggs."

The puppy-dog ears fluffed up and she looked at you with glittering eyes, like you were a fireworks display.

You sighed inwardly and brushed back your hair.

Female anime protagonists tend to be "Master Chefs" or "Lethal Cooks," but rarely in-between, the bento she prepared felt ... underwhelming. But you finished everything without another word and Maya smiled the entire time.

The rest of the week continued uneventfully, save for your new lunchmate. The bentos she made were adjusted according to your taste. She even added dessert. Mondays and Thursdays were for cat-shaped cookies, Tuesdays and Wednesdays had brownies. Today you stared at a fist-sized lemon square.

Though her cooking wasn't exceptional, you could feel her sincerity everytime you unboxed your lunch, so you finished everything every time.

[Host, how long do you insist on ignoring your stalker?]

"What are you talking about? I eat the lunch boxes she prepares for me and I always wait for her when we drive to school."

[Not Maya. I meant him.] The system unfolded a light screen monitor with a flashing arrow pointing behind you, specifically, it was pointing at Leviathan hiding behind the cafeteria door.

"Oh, that one. He held out longer than I expected but it looks like he'll be making a move soon--"

And as if on cue, Levi took a deep breath, hesitated and turned around. Then he scratched his head, turned around again, bumped into a couple of students, and trudged his way to you.

Smirking internally, you pretended not to notice him standing three feet behind you.

Maya, however, was quick to point him out. "May we help you?"

You languidly lifted your head towards Levi's direction and said with a grin, "I'll take that second apology any time."

Maya's eyes widened. "Apology?"

"Levi here threw a paper bag at my face. Good thing there was no damage, right?" This body gave you the prettiest face yet. You wanted to fawn over it for as long as possible.

"You threw a paper bag at my brother?" Maya's ears turned red, but being the female lead of a shoujo series, her scowl looked more like a pout, and it was hard to take her anger seriously.

Levi was also red in the face. He fumbled his fingers together as he muttered, "I d-d-didn't ... "

You leaned over with your hand cupping your ear. "What was that? I couldn't hear you."

" ... I said that I didn't mean to ... hit you ... "

"Nice. But," you said as you hid your mouth behind your hand. " ... that doesn't sound like an apology."
