Chapter Twelve: Stay safe x

Nat POV

*The mission*

"Can you see them?" Steve asked over comms, I was too busy coughing to reply,

"Negative" I heard Sam say,

"Shit!" Steve exclaimed,

"Language!" Tony replied,

"Not the time" I spit back, finally clearing from the smoke-filled room, I saw Tony land a few feet away, and the rest of the team converged on our point,

"How did they get away?" Yelena asked running up to us,

"It was an ambush, we didn't prepare for" Steve said in response,

"How did they know we would be here" Tony ranted, throwing his head up, we were interrupted by a voice on the comms,

"Thank you for delivering our weapon back to us" you looked at Steve, concern on his face,

"Hydra?" Tony asked, but the line just went dead,

"We will get him back" Sam said to Steve,

"Nat, Sam and Steve... it might be best for you to continue on, to follow the trail now before it gets cold, too many of us might blow the cover" Vision offered to the group,

"Good idea Vision, Nat, Sam, do you mind helping me find him?" Steve asked us,

"Of course man" Sam said, I nodded in agreement. Before Tony, Vision and Yelena left, I pulled Yelena to the side,

"Hey, you did great on your first mission" I said to my younger sister,

"Thanks Nat, I got that guy in the ribs pretty good, good form" she said with a smile, as she recounted the fight, I smiled back at her.

"Anytime today you two" Tony joked, Yelena smiled at me, and turned back to Tony, they left.

Now, time to find Bucky.

Y/n Pov

Bruce had brought you back to your room to get settled into.

"So, Nat isn't coming back yet?" you say with sad eyes at Bruce, you hide the disappointment in your voice,

"Not yet Y/n" he said, giving me a comforting smile,

"Did anyone tell her what happened?" you ask Bruce, he shook his head in response

"Okay good, I don't want her distracted or anything" you say back to him, you are caught off guard by the sound of your phone going off, you light up when you see it's a text from Nat,

"Hey, sorry but I won't be coming home with the rest of them, Bucky is missing, and I told Steve I would help find him. I haven't forgot about our chat. – Nat"

You were worried about Bucky but couldn't help feeling disappointed that she wouldn't be coming home tonight. You text her back,

Y/N - "Stay safe x"

Nat - "What is the 'x' for?"

Y/n – "Do you not using x's at the end of your texts?"

Nat – "Not that I know of, what does that mean?"

Y/n – "Nothing, it's fine, just stay safe... bye"

God that embarrassing you thought, all of my family and friends use x's at the end of their texts, you feel the heat rise in your chest,

"Y/n? Are you okay?", at the sound of their voice, you turn around quickly,

"Wanda?" you replied, shocked to see her at your bedroom doorway, she asked if you could talk, she walked further into your room, as you pat the space beside you on the bed,

"Are you okay?" you ask her,

"Shouldn't I be asking you that" she said pointing down to the bandage,

"Oh, that, it's really nothing, I think Bruce just wrapped it as a precaution" you said, taking the bandage off slightly to show her that it had already healed, she smiled in response, and you decided to ask her again if she was okay, sensing there was something on her mind.

"I don't know" she admitted with a heavy sigh,

"Okay, well, are you excited to see Vision again?" you ask, trying to lift her mood, desperately hoping that the answer would be no,

"See that's just it, I don't know, I think I have enjoyed our routine over the last couple of days and I'm worried that now some of the team are back, we won't get to see each other as much" she didn't look at you once, she just played with her hands, you felt bad about your previous thoughts, not really thinking that Vision would be the problem,

"Wanda, you know you are still training me, right? You still have to make me food, because I can't eat mac and cheese forever – " you laugh, again trying to get her to smile, this time she does,

"- the stars will be there tonight, and tomorrow and the next day, so if you need an escape to the roof just let me know, and I'll come find you. Plus, Tony has an extensive movie collection that I don't think is going anywhere anytime soon."

"See you know how to get me out of my own head" she laughs, her eyes look sad,

"Just when it was just me and you, I didn't need to be told where I was allowed to go, and I didn't feel the pressure of needing everyone to see that I was not a bad person" she adds,

"Why would anyone think you were a bad person?" you asked, resting your hand on top of hers, she looked down at your hands, a small smile appearing and vanishing just as quick,

"Because of what happened in Lagos" she answered, you could see tears forming in her eyes,

"Wanda, everyone makes mistakes, that's how we grow, you can't be perfect" you grab her hand a little tighter,

"But when I am not perfect, people die" she said, you saw her fighting the tears in her voice,

"No, people died because Rumlow decided to steal a biohazard, why are you trying so hard to be perfect?" you question, she looks up at you, tears falling down her cheeks,

"It is Vision, he wants the world to see me as he does" she says looking at her hands,

"You are allowed to be you Wanda, you are a good person, who cares what the world thinks?" as you finish, you rest your hand on top of both of hers, using your other hand to force her to look into your eyes, as soon as does you do you feel a spark, and this time Wanda feels it too,

"What was that" she asked in a low voice, eyebrow raised at you,

"Oh its nothing, I don't know what that means" you say, trying to convince her and yourself, you think back to the night on the roof, the first time she winked at you leaving your room, and the spark you felt then, the way she made you breakfast, how you sat just a little bit too close during movies, and how much you liked her, you like her, shit! Could this get any more complicated, you thought?

"Yes, it can" Wanda replied her eyes red, realising she had just read everything in your mind.
