"Chongyun!" A small kid ran towards him, a smirk planted on his face as he hummed his name. "Spare me!" Chongyun made an effort to run away, but he didn't go far. The kid shot water at him with his watergun, "Got you!" Yun sighed, his lips forming a smile. "My turn! Run away!" Chongyun started running after the kid, though he was soon interrupted. "Chongyun! Xingqiu! Come eat with everyone!" His mother called to them. It was September 7th, Yun's birthday. They were spending it in a park just outside the small town, most of their class was already sitting down at the table, waiting to eat the giant birthday cake. Yun sat down at one end of the table, Xingqiu sitting not too far from him. They sang him an un-synced birthday song, and he blew out his 8 candles. "Happy 8th birthday!" Chongyun's mom pulled his ears, giving him a kiss on the forehead. Yun smiled, "Let's cut the cake!" He demanded. The kids cheered.
"This cake is really good. You made it, right?" Xingqiu's mom asked Yun's mom. "Yeah, it took quite some time." She laughed. "Thank you for inviting us, this will probably be our last party in this town. It's kind of hard leaving here, I mean, I've lived here basically my entire life." Qiu's mom laughed. "You'll be fine! You and your family will get adjusted to the city quickly, and if anything, you're always welcome back." She smiled. "Thank you. I hope you're right." Xingqiu's mom smiled back, staring at her son. Xingqiu and his family were moving, quite soon at that.
"Xingqiu, you're moving?" Chongyun approached him after overhearing his mom's chat. "Hmm, yeah.." He frowned, "I heard were moving to a city though!" Yun jumped, "That's so cool!" Xingqiu smiled wide, "Yeah! I think it's.. October 1st? Just In a week or two." "What..." Yun pouted, "That's just before your birthday.." Xingqiu paused, "It'll be fine Yun! Let's just hang out for now!" Chongyun looked up at him, "Alright!" He chased after him.
The weeks went by fast, and it was now September 30th. Xingqiu and Chongyun were hanging out one last time. "It'll be boring without you at school.." Yun complained, launching himself onto Qiu's bed. Xingqiu followed him into his room, "Haha, same for me. We can always text through our parents' phones though." He smiled. "I guess.. It won't really be the same though. And I'll reeeaaaaalllyyyyy miss Xiangling's sweets." Yun frowned. Xingqiu sat on his bed, beside Chongyun. "Yeah... I'll miss this town. And our class. And the festivals." He looked up at his empty ceiling. "Oh! My mom got us some gifts. I'll go get them!" He smiled, leaving the room. Chongyun turned face-up, Xingqiu's family was pretty rich, maybe it was a game? "Alright! Here, this one's for you, and this one's for me!" Xingqiu handed him one of the boxes, it had his name signed onto it. It was pretty small, only about the size of his palm. They both opened it. Oh, it was... a ring? "A ring?" Xingqiu asked. "Hmm..." Chongyun picked up the ring, "It has an X on it! But my name starts with a C... Xingqiu I think we got the wrong gifts." Xingqiu laughed, picking up his own ring, "I think they're meant to be like matching rings. You get my name and I get yours, get it?" "Ohh, I think I get it.." Chongyun tried putting the ring on, it was really big, it basically only fit his thumb. Xingqiu put his ring on his thumb as well, "Alright then! Let's consider this our parting gift!" Xingqiu tried his best to smile. Saying goodbye to your bestfriend isn't all that easy. Chongyun formed a slight frown, reaching his hand to do their handshake one last time. Xingqiu completed it, his smile also soon turning into a frown. "Chongyun!!" Xiangling cried out as she ran into the room. She hugged him tightly, a few tears rolling down his face. "I don't want you to leaveeee!" She complained. Yun laughed a little, "Xiangling, I'm not going anywhere. It's you thats leaving." He smiled. Xiangling frowned, "Still!" She was only 5. "Chongyun, sweetie, your mom's here to pick you up!" Xingqiu's mom called to him from the kitchen. Chongyun hugged Xiangling and Xingqiu tightly, "I'll miss you guys." He got up and headed out. Xingqiu blinked out his watery eyes and ruffled Xiangling's hair, "We'll be fine." He smiled for her. He turned over to the boxes. Wait. Chongyun had left his ring. "CHONGYUN!" Xingqiu ran out of his room, opening the front door. But Chongyun had already left. "Honey? What's wrong?" His mom ran over to him. "Mom..." He turned to her with watery eyes, "Mom.. Chongyun left his ring! He left our parting gift.." He started crying. His mom pulled him into a hug, "Don't worry sweetie. It'll be fine." "He's gonna forget about me.." He mumbled in between his tears. He didn't know leaving would hurt so bad.
