"Tag your it!"

Five year old Mai sat with her arms around her legs, watching the other kids at her school play tag, hide and seek and other games that she wasn't allowed to join.
Ever since developing her quirk no one accepting her because of her devil-like appearance. Like many people with mutation quirks the other kids didn't trust her and neither did their parents.

"No you didn't touch me!"
"Yes I did!"
"That was my shirt!!"

Two kids argued back and forth.
'He did tag him.'
Mai thought to herself having seen the whole thing. She always sat back and observed, watching her classmates play games she'd never be allowing to join.
Her enhanced hearing easily picked up several conversations all over the playground.

"I found you!"
"You have to touch me!"
"This isn't hide and go seek tag!"
"Yes it is!!"
A girl and a boy argued over their hide and seek game similarly to the boy's playing tag.

"I think he likes you!"
"No he doesn't!"
"You should ask him!"
"No!"
"Why not?"
"Because I don't like him!"
"Then who do you like?"
Two other girls discussed boys together.

Mai smiled wondering fondly, what it would be like having a boy like her?

"Just do it."
"No."
"Why? You a whimp or something?"
"N-no but a teacher might tell my mom."
"They won't care, everyone hates her."
Two boys whispered not far behind Mai.

'Who are they taking about?'
She wondered tilting her head as her ears picked up an conversation just a small ways behind her.

"Okay fine, but you have to do it too."
"Okay, deal."

The two boys agreed and it wasn't long before something small and hard hit the back of her head She gasped and grabbed the hurt area.
"Ow!"
She cried and then she got struch again.

She heard giggling behind her and turned with tears in her eyes grey eyes.
Seeing two boys hiding behind a bush pointing at her and snickering.

She wiped her eyes and got up, walking to a school building so her back was guarded.

"Are you okay?!"

She looked up to see a boy with green hair and eyes with his hand extended to her.
'Oh he's the new kid."
She looked away, ignoring him.

"That looked like it hurt!"
He pulled his hand back and bent down seemingly worried.

'He doesn't know yet.'

"Go away..."
The small girl whispered shuffling away so she didn't face him.

"But they hurt your head! You should go tell a teacher and go to the nurs-"
He said looking around for an adult to call for help.

"No, please go away-"
She pleaded as she noticed the same two boys walking forward, but now they were focused on someone other than Mai.

"Hey new kid?!"
One of the boys called stomping up to them.

"Yes?!"
He asked innocently turning around with his big green eyes still wide with worry.

"What are you doing?"
Now both of the two boys stood next to them.
Mai shrunk down while the new boy pointed at her.
"Oh! She got hurt! I was making sure she was okay!"

The boys looked at each other and laughed.
"You must be a loser!"
One said with a laugh.

The green haired boy tilted his head.
"What do you mean?"
He asked, why would being worried make him a loser?

"Look at her! She's a freak! You must be pretty desperate for a friend if you're being nice to her!!"
They laughed more and pushed him down next to her.

"N-no!"
Mai spoke up.
"He didn't know! It's not his fault!"
She said shaking her head frantically.

They glared at her.
"What do you mean he didn't know?! Anyone can see it! You don't even look human!"
A boy stepped forward and stomped on her tail causing Mai to cry out in pain.
The red appendage whipped to her body and she grabbed it with her hands, pulling it close.

"Alright kids it's time to go inside!"
Their teacher called them in.

Mai jumped up and ran inside, thankful that she and the other boy were saved.
"Rika! No running!"
The teacher scolded.
She nodded and slowed to a walk making her way to the classroom until a voice caught her ears.

"Teacher! Teacher! Mai was being mean to the new boy!"
One of the boys who were teasing her told the teacher and the other nodded frantically in agreement.
"Yeah! She pushed him!"

"Thank you for telling me, Rika! Get over here now!"
The teacher called to her innocent student with a disapproving frown.

"Yes ma'am!"
Mai Rushed over away from the door that she had almost gone through.

"We're you being mean to Midoriya?"
She shook her head, eyes wide.
All the other kids rushed into the classroom Mai wished to had gone into but.
Midoriya stayed behind from the group confused.
"B-but she wasn't being mean-"
He started to defend her.

"it's okay Midoriya, you need to be honest don't be scared."
The teacher reassured him bending down to his height.

"But it wasn't her-"

"Yes."
Mai said keeping her head down and walking to the teacher as she confessed to a crime she didn't actually commit.
"I pushed him down, I'm sorry Midoriya."
She apologized peeking up at him through her hair.

'If he keeps being nice to me no one's gonna be nice to him.'

Teacher grabbed Mai's arm and pulled the small girl down the hall.
"You need to stop this Rika! This is the third time you've messed with those two boys! And now Midoriya?!"

Her hand's grip hurt Mai's arm but she didn't pull away, she looked behind her at Midoriya who looked upset and confused.
"We can't be friends, I'm sorry."
She whispered so softly no one heard.
