"Wait! Mai!"
Midoriya called out to Mai once school was finished.

"Yes?"
The girl asked turning around to facehef freind.
The boy nervously fidgeted.
It was hard for Midoriya to tell if he annoyed Mai, the devil girl was almost unreadable.
"I- Well I was wondering if you wanted to train together?! I really want to learn more about your quirk and fighting style!"

She shrugged, the only hint of emotion was her tail swaying from side to side.
"Sure, but I have to change first."
She responded turning on her heels and walked toward the teacher dorms without saying another word.

Midoriya stood there for a second.
'Does she want me to follow her?'
He thought to himself nervously taking a step forward.

Mai stopped and turned to look back at him when she noticed he wasn't following her.
"Are you coming?"
She questioning the boy causing him to snap out of his trance.

"Yes!"
He ran quickly to catch up with her.

"Do you live on campus?"
He asked noticing her direction.

"Yes."
She answered keeping her eyes forward.

"W-why?"
He asked curiously.

She looked at him as he slowly remembered the fact that Mai had no family.
He bowed down quickly feeling immediate regret.
"Forgive me! I f-forgot!"
He begged.

Mai looked down frowning, knowing it was a simple slip up.
"No problem."
She said and watched as the boy straightened.

"Hey... Can I ask you something?"
Midoriya stuttered looking everywhere but her eyes.
"You don't have to answer if you don't want to but..."
He finally made eye contact, looking her in her grey eyes.

"What is it?"
She asked finally after a few seconds of silent eye contact.

"What... What happened? I mean..."
He cleared his throat.
" where were you? You were pronounced missing five years ago..."
He finally finished his question and waited for her to scold him for asking.

She was quite for awhile, a shadow briefly passed over her face.

He gulped at her intensity deciding to let it go.
"S-sorry I probably shouldn't have asked-"

She shook her head assuming she held a less then pleasant expression on her face.
"It's fine, I understand you wanting to know but I'm not sure I'm ready to talk about everything."
She said slowly deep in thought.

"That's fine, I understand. but if you ever do want to talk, you can come to me."
Her friend said, he knew he was being rude.
His curiousity was causing him to be pushy.

Mai looked at her friend.
'Can I?'
She questioned.
All her life she'd been treated as a monster but Midoriya saw her in a different way, what would he think of the things that she did?
She killed people, she was forced to become the monster everyone already thought she was.

Would knowing her past change what Midoriya thought of her to?

She closed her eyes.
"Let's just say I ran into some bad people, and I was forced to do things I regret."
Her voice was barely over a whisper.
Though she said very little, it was more than she ever thought she would confess so quickly.
"The heroes got me out of that and I'm grateful for that."
By then They had made it to her apartment-like dorm.
Mai pulled out her keys and unlocked it.

"Okay... Thanks for telling me that, I know it was probably hard for you."
He said smiling at her, trying to show her in every way he didn't expect her to do anything she wasn't comfortable with.
