chapter two: meeting the team

(Y/N) POV

"(Y/N) quick get on the lifeboat!" My dad yells as I struggle to walk across the deck of our sinking ship "I'm trying" I yell and in a desperate attempt to escape I leap forward and land in the lifeboat. As we enter the water our boat is bombarded by harsh waves "we aren't going to get out of this" I say "don't think like that (Y/N) we can do it" my dad yells as we watch the ship start to be swallowed by the depths of the ocean, all of a sudden large wave blindsides us and I go overboard "(Y/N)!" I hear my dad yell before passing out.

Years later

I wake up on the back of a quinjet "about time you woke up" I hear the voice of Natasha Romanoff say as she looks over her shoulder at me "where are we?" I ask as I rub my eyes "just coming in to land" she answers whilst I get up and grab my equipment "so what's the deal with Clint? has he really turned?" I ask bluntly. Natasha takes a few seconds to respond "we don't know for sure it seems that Loki has some sort of ability to control people" she responds before going quiet, I'm not stupid I know the history between them, I know the thought of having to fight the man that helped change her life scares her...I know because I've been there too.

Years earlier

I fall to the ground and let out a groan "get up (Y/N)!" Slade Wilson says "I thought I trained you better than this" he adds before spinning around the sword in his hand. As he does this I kick myself up and charge forward luring him into swinging at my neck which I manage to duck under and trip him up, once he falls to the ground I take the chance to remove the sword from his hand and football kick his head but the blow is softened by his helmet. Slade quickly gets back to his feet and starts throwing a combination of punches and kicks some of which I manage to deflect but the rest meet their targets "so reckless...didn't you learn anything on that island?" Slade taunts as I hold my ribs "well...I did learn this" I say before drawing my bow and firing an arrow which seemingly out of pure luck strikes Slade in the eye. He cries out and tries to grab the arrow which gives me the opportunity to start beating him down. Within seconds I have him beaten to the ground and I pick up his sword and hold the blade against his throat "that's it (Y/N)" Slade says as he props himself up "be what I trained you to be...prove who's the better opponent" he says and as I begin to press the blade against his neck I realise "I have nothing to prove to you, you will never hurt my city again...that's all that matters" I say before throwing the sword as I walk away leaving him for the police.

Present day

I step off the quinjet followed by natasha and as I take a few steps forward I notice a man standing there waiting for us "(Y/N) (L/N) meet Steve Rogers" Nat says as Steve holds out his hand, I shake his hand "I guess you're here to help out" he says "I'm here to complete the mission and get back to my city" I reply before noticing another man with glasses walking about awkwardly "I'm assuming this is Dr Banner" I say as I watch him "it is he's here to help us locate the cube" nat says "now you might want to step inside" she says "why?" I ask as I look over my shoulder at her "let's just say it's gonna get a little hard to breathe" she answers as the three of us step closer to the edge of the helicarrier and watch as large engine propellers emerge from under the water "really they want me in a submerged pressurized container" Dr Banner says "maybe going inside is a good idea" I say just as we begin to lift up into the air "oh no this is much better" Bruce says sarcastically.

As we walk into the helicarrier we're greeted by Nick Fury "Mr (L/N) thank you for coming on short notice" he says "what's the situation? Romanoff gave me a brief summary but I need to know why I'm leaving my city" I say "the fate of the world, right now we are dealing with a threat which could potentially wipe out our entire existence" he says calmly "well let's get started then" I say "I'll take you to your quarters (Y/N), follow me" natasha says before leading me away from the group. I walk into the room and see the bare essentials that I need a bed, clean water and basic surveillance equipment, I set up all my stuff and from my old wooden case...one of the many things I brought back from the island I take out my bow and I start putting on my outfit "it's been a while since I've seen you in that" Natasha says as she walks in "and I'm pretty sure you also showed up uninvited last time" I reply referring to how I first met the black widow.
