When I was reading the last parts of The One, I felt myself wanting to know what Maxon was feeling as his life changed suddenly all around him. How did he react once he'd left America in the hall? How did he take his parent's deaths? When did he tell Kriss that he wasn't going to marry her? What was he thinking when he proposed to America?

I wrote this short story to answer these questions I had for myself. It tells the events occuring in the last parts of The One (between Maxon catching America in the hall with Aspen until their engagement) from Maxon's perspective. A lot of the dialogue is kept from Kiera Cass's The One, as it is rewriting a scene from another's perspective, but other scenes are not, as they weren't written in the book. I hope you enjoy!
