THE Capitol cost the Victors of each District everything.
That was something the common folk could never understand. How even after you survive the games, you're practically a slave to the President and his friends for as long as you shall live. Dove Akari especially, was Snow's personal hitman, eliminating anyone that he deemed a threat.
For even through Hope there is Fear.
And that's how the Victors lived their lives after the Games. In constant, agonising fear that one day everyone they cared about could just stop breathing.
So now, the District 4 Victor, Dove Akari, was staring in disbelief at President Snow's Third Quarter Quell announcement.
Even if her name wasn't called, Dove knew she was going back into the Games.
How could she not? Her beloved Mentor, Mags, could never survive whatever Snow had planned.
There was also Annie Cresta. Still such a traumatised young girl who is petrified of her own shadow.
And then there was Finnick.
Finnick Odair, the Capitol darling.
Dove knew, no matter what the cost, Finnick would live, not her.
Because she'd rather die, than live in a world where he wasn't there.
However, Finnick, was just as willing to risk it all for her.
