Alec's POV:
My legs were killing me. The sheer fire radiating up my legs made me feel like I couldn't move anymore but I didn't care, I had to push through it, it was the only way to get better.
Pulling myself through the water, I continued kicking my legs despite the cries they sent back to me. I needed to improve, get better and ultimately beat Elijah if I had any shot at the Olympics. Hitting the wall with my hand, I gripped the gutter and pulled myself up for a breath. I was exhausted and could hardly catch my breath, so I took a short break.
"Alec Williams, what the hell are you doing!" Isaac exclaimed, walking out onto pool side from the locker room.
"Isaac," I panted, "King...I am training," I answered, taking my cap and goggles off which felt like such a relief.
"No, you're trying to put yourself into early retirement. You are going to push yourself so far and its one day going to be too far, then what? You need to listen to your body when it says enough. You said it yourself; qualifiers are in four days; you need to be ready for then. What are you going to do if you have an injury," Isaac ranted on as he paced back and forth above my lane.
He was right.
"You're right," I finally spoke, deciding to listen to him and pull myself out of the water which hurt like a bitch since my muscles ached.
"I'm always right. You're lucky you interrupted me, I was about to start on about what Coach Morgan would think if you kept this up," Isaac joked, trying to soften the tense atmosphere as I took a drink from my water bottle.
"Yeah, very lucky," I replied, now back to normal breathing.
"How long have you been here anyway?" Isaac asked.
"Uh, since six-thirty, why?" I muttered, shaking out my left leg to try and get rid of the aching.
"It's flipping nine thirty am Alec, I came to look for you when you didn't show up to first period!" Isaac exclaimed as my eyes widened.
"Shit, I didn't realise!" I exclaimed, forgetting my pain, and packing my stuff up to go get changed.
Isaac followed me silently as I rushed around whilst being careful, I didn't slip. How could I have missed first period, I thought I set an alarm on my phone. Grabbing my phone off the bench, I saw the silent button clearly turned on as my phone silently flashed an alarm.
You have to be joking.
"Ok, I'll be out in a minute," I said to Isaac as I headed into the locker rooms, now defeat from the intense swim session.
Getting dressed hurt like a bitch and I knew all too well I'd pushed myself too far today. I needed an ice bath later and a hell of a lot of rest before practice tomorrow morning. We had today off since coach was busy handling things for the upcoming competition, hence why I got in an early training session. I didn't want to lose and think, 'What if I'd done a training session that day, would I have won?'
"Are you okay? Isaac called from outside, knocking on the door.
"Perfect, just coming," I replied, lacing up my vans and pulling my backpack over my shoulder.
My hair was still damp, but I couldn't care less. I wasn't about to miss more classes and get in trouble over dry hair. If I let my attendance slip, they'd suspend me from the swim team till it improved and I couldn't risk that.
Exiting the lockers, Isaac nodded to me, and we both headed out the pool and into the school hallways where everyone was heading to their second class of the day. I had English, which I wasn't looking forward to, but I persevered for the sake of swimming. If my grades dropped, I wasn't allowed to compete.
