Alec's POV:

"I have a ritual and it isn't this, Isaac," I huffed out as I turned off the car radio for the sixth time.

"Yeah, well let's spice things up! You need the rocky theme tune for this or is there any point in swimming at all today?" Isaac huffed out as he pressed play again, blasting the music.

"I hate you," I stated as I turned off another road and onto the highway. I swear the doors were shaking and the windows were vibrating.

"How are you feeling anyways about this competition?" Isaac shouted over the music as he pulled out snacks and began munching.

I scoffed towards him as I glanced down at my protein smoothie in the cup holder. It's moments like these I hate being an athlete. I turned the music down slightly but kept it on for Isaac so that I could actually hear him.

"Nervous. You've chosen the worst competition to finally attend, this is qualifiers, so a lot is riding on this, and I know Elijah is still faster than me because of Lucy," I ranted as I squeezed the steering wheel harder.

"Personally, I feel like I've chosen the best competition. I don't want to sit at some boring competition, give me action," Isaac stated with a wink as he continued eating.

I rolled my eyes as I left the highway, turning down a side road and pulling into the complex where the competition was held. Parking wasn't all that great, but we managed to find a space and get parked eventually. However, by that point Isaac was bubbling with anticipation.

"Come on!" He hollered as I grabbed my swim bag and smoothie.

"I'm coming now, shut up," I called back.

Once I locked my car, I jogged over to Isaac and began walking along with him, briefing him on how these competitions all work. I was trying to ignore the chill travelling over my legs, regretting wearing my black shorts and team hoodie. I should have worn joggers like everyone else is that I can see.

"Blah blah, heats exist, I got it, now how do you drink that green stuff?" Isaac asked as he pointed towards the drink in my hand.

"With the knowledge I won't be tired later if I drink it," I replied before taking a gulp and grimacing.

"Aw if it isn't my little ray of sunshine!" A voice called sarcastically from behind as we both neared the entrance of the complex.

I tilted my head towards the sky at hearing his voice with a huge sigh. I began muttering small profanities under my breath before tilting my head forward again and straightening up.

Turning around, I noticed Elijah stood there in his swim teams black and red uniform. His hair was messy, and his swim bag swung carelessly over his shoulder but man, even I'll admit it, his confidence made you nervous to race him.

"Please tell me this is Elijah, pleaseee," Isaac whispered towards me without removing his gaze from Elijah.

I hummed in reply causing Isaac to all but sequel before he got ready to watch the drama unfold. I'm pretty sure I heard him mutter that this was the greatest day of his life. Choosing to ignore that last bit, I refocused on the person before me.

"Elijah," I nodded with a small smirk.

"Still drinking those shakes? You know you won't win even if you endure those kale filled smoothies," Elijah chuckled as he pointed to the smoothie, him now directly in front of me standing at the same height with his duffle bag hung on his shoulder.

"Not your concern either way," I replied before turning on my heel and heading in, both Isaac and Elijah following suit.

"You know you won't win though; I know Lucy told you about my times," Elijah called from behind me.
