TAVIA LED US UP TO THE ROOF of the warehouses, multiple greenhouses stood in the sun, the light shining on the clouded glass. Me and Clementine walked after the woman, slightly unnerved, my new boots making loud, thudding noises across the concrete.
Tavia: Follow me, come on.
She opened the greenhouse door, letting us walk in, the humidity making beads of sweat appear on my forehead.
Tavia: Stay in here for a minute. I’m gonna radio down and find out what you two’re doing. Don’t touch anything.
The woman left after giving us a final suspicious glance, leaving us to look around. I walked forwards, turning my head down one of the aisles of plants, finding Sarah curled up in a ball. I headed over, carefully, Clementine following after.
Emma: Sarah…?
Clementine: Are you okay? I know it’s… it’s gotta be hard.
Sarah: My dad’s never hit me before. Even when I was really bad, he never hit me.
Emma: Sarah, he didn’t want to hit you. It was Carver’s fault, he made him do it. Don’t blame your dad, blame Carver because in a weird sorta way, he’s one who slapped you.
