NINE DAYS LATER
THE AIR WAS STILL COLD, but I felt warmer, calmer, safer. Walking through this field with Clementine and my dad at my side, AJ being held by my dad. My family. The snow covered the forest surrounding us, some falling off every time a bird flew away. We followed the plume of smoke that twisted and turned in the sky, like a flare in the darkness.
Clementine: It’s just a little further. We’re almost there.
Emma: Oh, thank God… My legs are tired.
