Later that afternoon Katie and Sadie were at Navy Pier having brunch before they went to do some shopping.
They were having casual conversation when Katie brought up a new topic.

"So do you have a boyfriend?"

"What? No."

"No? But you're so smart, and pretty and-"

"-have a house full of firemen who would not hesitate to corner and interrogate the poor boy."

This made Katie laugh.
"True, and could you imagine if Dad was still around?"

Sadie paused for a moment.
"Honestly I can't, I really didn't know him."

"When was the last time you saw him?"

"I was around 4 I think, he stopped by for my birthday and gave me a present. That's the last time I saw him."

Sadie sighed playing with the dainty silver chain around her neck.

"What was it?"
Katie asked, Sadie had zoned out.

"Huh?"

"What was the present?"

Sadie glanced down and hooked a thumb on the chain she was fiddling with, a charm hung on it.

"A Saint Christopher medal"
Katie pulled a chain out from under the collar of her shirt, with the same thing.
"He gave Kelly one too. It was his way of saying 'I care about you even though I'm not really around' "

"You think so?"

"I know so. He wasn't the most present father, but he did care."

That evening they made it back to the loft. Stella and Kelly sat on the couch watching a movie.

"Hey! You two have fun?"

He asked, not moving from his spot on the couch.

"Yeah"
Sadie answered as she set her bag down.
"What have y'all been up to?"

"Literally this since we got up."
Stella spoke up
"Aside from getting food or using the bathroom my ass has not moved from this spot."

"Y'all deserve it."

The two sisters changed into pjs and joined them on the couch.
After a few minutes Stella stood up announcing she was going to go take a shower.

"You need help?"
Kelly chuckled

"No, I think I got it this time."
She walked away, not really needing a shower but she wanted to give the siblings some alone time.

The sisters scooted closer towards Kelly, Sadie being in the middle.
Kelly wrapped an arm around both of them, pulling them closer.

"I love y'all you know that?"
Kelly said as he smiled looking over at them. Sadie giggled.

"What's so funny?"

"You said 'Y'all' I think I'm starting to rub off on you!"
