"You like it?" I asked her. She ran and jumped on the bed

"I love it" she said with a toothy grin. She then ran over to me and polly and gave us both a big hug

"Thank you thank you thank you" she screamed happily. I laughed at my baby girl as she ran around the room full of joy. I've never seen her so happy

"Come one now, it's time for tea" aunt pol said. Lyd grabbed both our hands as we walked downstairs with her and into the dining room. The food was already on the table so she ran into her chair

I was about to start eating but Lydia then put her hands together

"Are you gonna pray daddy?" She asked me. I looked at polly who had her hands together and I decided to go with it

"Dear Lord. Thank you for this food we are about to receive and bless the hands that prepared it. Watch over this house and its residents and those less fortunate than ourselves. Amen" she finished. Me and polly said amen aswell.

"So how are you liking Birmingham so far?" Polly asked her as we began to eat

"I don't really like Birmingham as a place. There's alot of smoke and explosions happening. But I love my life here. London was so boring compared to this" Lydia replied

"Do you miss school?" I asked

"Not really. My tutors are boring but so was the boarding school. I wanna go proper school with girls and boys where they learn actual things. The local school learn English and maths and history. I learn Latin ballet and cooking" she grumbled.

"Well I can speak with your mother about it but no promises" i told her. She smiled at me and we continued to eat.

After we had ate, I picked rose up and took her into the hall

"It's time to go to your mother's house now baby girl" I told her as I helped her put her coat on

"No" she said stamping her feet

"Come on love. We will see you soon" aunt pol said trying to convince her. She shook her head, folded her arms and looked down at her feet

"Lyds, just put ya coat on. I hate this as much as you but I can't keep you here sweetheart" I told her. She continued to stare at the ground until I lifted her face to look at me. Tears were running down her cheeks

"I don't want to go" she cried. I wiped her tears and kissed her cheeks

"I know baby. I don't want you to go either. But I will see you Friday night. I promise"

"I don't want you Friday I want you now" she cried stomping her foot. I tried to calm her but she ended up screaming at the top of her lungs

"Lydia Rose Shelby, you put this coat on or don't. Your choice. But we are going and that's final. Now you can either freeze or stay warm" I said to her through gritted teeth, my voice raised. She stopped screaming and just looked at me as did pol.

"Shelby?" She asked. Now I realised what I had done

"I'm so sorry lyd. I meant Wood it just slipped out" I apologised. In her shocked state, I managed to put her coat on and lifted her onto my hip. Her and polly hugged goodbye before we walked out and in the car. I put her in the back as always and got in the front to drive. The ride was silent as lyd stopped crying and just sulked in the back.

When I pulled up outside Rosa's house, I opened lyds door to find her fast asleep. No wonder it was so quiet. With great care, I slowly lifted her from the car and into my arms, before walking inside the house. Rosa came from the room lyd had been tutored early

"You're back late" she said with very little to no expression on her face

"It's half 8" I told her. She shrugged and motioned towards the sleeping girl in my arms

"She fell asleep in the car" I said. Rosa walked up to me and took lyd in her own arms. Just as I thought she was being a good mother, she woke her up by forcefully standing her up. Lyd rubbed her eyes to adjust to the light

"Lydia Rose, go upstairs. The Nanny will be up shortly" she said with no love in her voice. Lydia nodded sadly but before she left, i crouched down and she ran into my arms

"Goodnight my love. I'll see you friday" I said kissing her cheek. As Rosa pried her away she quickly whispered in my ear

"I'd rather be a shelby than a wood"

Lydia pov

I saw daddy smile widely at my words before my mother dragged me away from him. He left the house and I was ordered upstairs. I was in too much of a good mood to be disobedient and so went with the flow. Nanny Julie helped me get ready and I couldn't stop smiling

"Someone had a good afternoon" she stared referring to my smile

"It was the best" I grumbled sadly

"Why the sudden sadness Lady Lydia?" She asked

"I wanna stay with daddy forever but mother won't allow it. His house is more fun. Mother never plays with me or does anything for me. But daddy takes me to see horses and bakes with me. I met my aunt pol today. She is super nice and badass" I said smiling

"Lady Lydia! Watch your language" she said shocked at the word 'badass'. I giggled at her reaction as I climbed into bed. She tucked me in and sat next to me

"I'm glad you had a good say Lady Lydia. And your mother just isn't the playing kind of parents. She prefers to stand on the sidelines but that doesn't mean she stopped caring" she told me

"I know she didn't stop caring. You can't stop something you never started" she looked at me sadly before turning off the light and leaving the room
