"Beginning to miss me?"
I stood there dumbfounded. I mean yes, I do miss him. But it's only been a day. We haven't even known each other a full day.
He continued to stand there, waiting for a response
"Y-yeah, I guess" I stuttered quietly
Camilo showed me a small smile again. Like he was saying 'that's good enough for me'.
"Well I missed you too, glad the feeling's mutual. Let's get going now for real" Camilo said
We finally arrived to casita. Casita opened and closed its top window and we both waved back. As we got to the front step, the door opened for us
"After you, mariposa" Camilo said, bowing a bit. He looked up with a slight smirk
That made me giggle. "Such a gentleman" I said sarcastically walking in. Camilo followed me in
"We won't get caught will we?" I asked Camilo
"Oh no no, everyone's out doing chores. Except Isa. She's preparing for her proposal tonight" he said
"Proposal? Woah where have I been" I said, surprised
"Aye, Mariano's getting ready to propose to her later today." Camilo replied.
"Ooh, how long have they been together" I asked
"Ehh, not long. They haven't even really been spending time that much. Casual meetups." Camilo said
"Alright, just up these stairs" he said leading the way.
"Camilo?" I asked
"Mmm?" He replied, more so focused on getting to the top of the stairs
"Why do you keep calling me mariposa?" I said
Camilo began to blush hard. I think he wanted to avoid answering but I stood my ground and didn't break my gaze
"I- uh. You're- you're necklace!" he said sweating
"Camilo I just started wearing this today" I laughed
"Right. Sorry, it's just a nickname for you. I thought it matched you well" he said
"Aw, Camilo. That's beautiful" I said, trying to make him feel better. I think I should've left that question alone
"Yeah, haha" he said, continuing to walk up the stairs.
We got nearer to Isabella's room. Camilo knocked on it.
"Isabella! You in there" he shouted
He knocked 3 more times.
"Where could she be? I thought she was going to stay home today to prepare for her prop-" Camilo said before getting cut off by the sound of Casita's front doors opening up
"Isabella, I'm so proud of you. You continue to honor your family". It was Abuela. And she was walking in, arms linked with Isabella.
"Just doing my part" Isabella said, but it sounded forced.
"Quick hide" Camilo said to me
"Wait why? I thought your Abuela was nice" I responded
Camilo didn't respond but quickly pulled me to the other side of casita, carefully staying out of sight of Abuela. He brought me to his door.
"Hide in my room, now" Camilo whisper-yelled
"Camilo why? I don't see- ahh" Camilo pushed me in and I fell in the floor. He quickly closed his door and locked it
