The plan was all set. I gotta admit, it seemed like a good plan. Would it work? We'll have to find out
Camilo held up his fist and I gave him a pump. He smiled at me reassuringly and grabbed my hand once more. We walked to the door before he let go and stuck his head out, taking note of the surroundings
"No one in sight" Camilo said to me.
"Dolores, if you see Abuela or anyone, distract them for us" he said into the air.
We began to walk out, slowly and quietly. So far so good.
We began to walk to the stairs before we ran into Luisa walking up the stairs with a plate of arepas
She was crying and mumbling something before she looked up at us. "H-hey cuz, h-hey y/n, don't look at me, I'm a mess" she said, wailing before she started walking away. Then she dead stopped and turned around
"Wait a minute, you're the one Abuela said to look out for" Luisa said, staring me down. "I need to turn you in, I have to do this". And she was very intimidating like this
I looked to Camilo to help me but he took one of Luisa's arepas and was eating it. He looked over at me and widened his eyes like he almost forgot about me
"Luisa you don't need to do that!" Camilo said frantically trying to stop her.
"No" Luisa said, sounding like she was going to cry. She bit her lip before grabbing me and putting me on her shoulder
"Prima please, don't" Camilo said, trying to stop Luisa. But she was set on taking me to Abuela.
She was carrying me towards the stairs before she roughly dropped me hard on the floor and she toppled over. Nothing was broken luckily but I scraped my arm against the wall, it was lightly bleeding
"Agh" I groaned, looking down at my hands. Camilo quickly rushed over to help me.
"Look what you did Luisa!" Camilo shouted angrily, helping me. "Are you hurt y/n" he said, gently holding my arm up while he examined the scrapes
"Here, eat this. I'm pretty sure tia made these." Camilo said handing me his half eaten arepa.
"Oh, oops. Don't mean to give you my leftovers" he said lightly giggling, he broke off a piece where he didn't bite
I ate it quickly and my arm began to heal up. I felt a lot better and Camilo helped me up.
"Luisa what the heck?!" Camilo said
Luisa was still on the floor in shock of what she did. "I-I'm sorry...I didn't mean to hurt- I didn't mean to let anyone down" she said, her eyes getting watery again
She was about to get up and run before Camilo stopped her. "Hold on, just tell us what's going on? Where's Abuela right now?" he asked
Luisa collected herself together
"Well, Abuela just got done arguing with my parents and your parents. She left to town since the people were worried about the magic" her eyes began to water again, thinking about her fading gift
I went up to Luisa and linked my arm with hers. She looked at me with tears. "It's ok, I forgive you" I said
"Thanks...I'm sorry" she said
Camilo put a hand on Luisa's other shoulder, comforting his older prima
"Well, Abuela said Mirabel was the cause of the magic. But she suspects part of it is because of y/n. I mean her Abuelo seems to be a lot of trouble, so Abuela thinks him, or anyone related to him, will break our Encanto" Luisa said
Me and Camilo listened, making sure Luisa knew we were attentive and cared.
"Abuela told me if I were to see you y/n, I was to bring you to her. Don't know what for...and I didn't want to let her down again, so I thought I needed to bring you to prove myself to Abuela. I didn't want to let her down and now I- I let you two down. I don't even know who I am anymore, I'm a loser!" She said, fully crying now
Me and Camilo tried our best to comfort but she continued.
"Luisa, you're more than just a gift! You're special because you're you!" I said
"They're right! Luisa please" Camilo pleaded
At this point we needed to just let her do her thing. Luisa quickly pulled us both into a hug, crushing me and Camilo.
"Agh" Camilo and I both said
She released us onto the floor. Camilo's face was a bit crooked before he shook his head, fixing it.
"Sorry...it's just so great to know there's people who think that. First Mirabel earlier, my parents and now you two" she smiled
Camilo grabbed the plate of arepas and gave it back to Luisa. Luisa smiled and she gave both of us one.
"I'll let you two go. Good luck. No one is here except for my mom, so watch out. Abuela is at the town square" Luisa said, heading back to her room
Camilo and I began to head downstairs. The coast was clear. Just as we were about to walk out, we heard Julieta walking our direction
"Quick hide" he whisper-yelled. I ran into their dining room, behind the wall
Camilo quickly shifted into someone. First Felix, then the priest and then Pepa. He stuck with his mom
"Oh sh-" Camilo said, being cut off by Julieta. His hands were baby hands. He quickly put his hands behind his back
"Oh Pepa, I thought you were helping with something" she asked, confused
"I, uh, finished that already. Came back for something" he said, sounding somewhat like his mom
"O-kay" Julieta said suspiciously
"And why do you have your hands behind your back? Are you hurt? Let me see" Julieta said, trying to reach for the hands
"NO!" Camilo shouted. Julieta was surprised by that.
"Alright then, I'll leave you be. Don't want a cloud to form haha" Julieta said, walking upstairs to her room.
Camilo made sure she walked into her room and was out of sight before shifting back into himself. And thankfully, his hands were his own now
Camilo ushered me to come quick. I did and we both walked outside, sighing in relief. The sky was somewhat light but pure darkness would soon approach
"I'll walk you home" Camilo said sternly
"W-what?" I asked before Camilo quickly linked his arm with mine
"I'll walk you home, no problem" he said starting to walk
"Wait wait, it's alright, I can do it on my own Camilo" I said, not wanting him to have to walk that far and possibly get in trouble
"Nonsense" he said, continuing to walk pulling me with him
"Camilo stop" I said, unlinking my arm to make sure he knew I wanted him to stay
Camilo looked at me and got lost in thought. Soon enough he looked up and smirked. "Do you even know the way to the path you take home? At night?"
"Pfff of course I do" I said, scanning the road and town up ahead. I didn't know...it looked very different at night
I didn't say it to Camilo though. But clearly he knew
"It's settled, I'm taking you home" he said, trying to link his arm again.
"No...no deal...I'll only let you walk me to where the path that I need to take is" I said, crossing my arms letting him know I wasn't budging
Camilo simply smiled at that, "ok. You got yourself a deal".
