Jackson Avery: Pierce turned up with Richard. Come save me?

Bella laughed out loud in the meeting room. The Chief snarled at her, the dirtiest look in her eyes as she told Bella without words to behave.

"Apologies," she cleared her throat and locked the phone in her hand, twisting it until it laid on the table face down. "Where were we?" she asked, pulling the papers from the folder.

Given Webber's day off, Bailey had asked Ledford to step in for the interviews. Incredibly random, yes, but what else was there to say but 'Yes, Chief' or 'Of course, Chief' in this instance?

The next candidate appeared out of the blue. Without as much as a handwave in Bella's direction, Bailey began the questioning process. Truthfully, Bella's presence was required to seem intimidating rather than to provide any input. With Richard's absence, Bailey needed backing and while she could've had a board member sit in with her, Ledford made the mistake of seeming the smallest bit interested.

"I just want to help people, and I think that doctors can save lives and change the world and eradicate diseases," the blonde woman explained in the quietest voice Bella had ever heard. She found herself leaning over her papers as if that would help her hear clearer. Next to her, Bailey did the same.

"I'm sorry but could you please repeat that?" Bella asked, smiling to seem inviting rather than on the edge of bursting out in laughter. It was not funny at all yet her automated response would've been to laugh.

"Um, I just want to help people, and I think that doctors can change the world, help save lives, and eradicate disease," the candidate repeated, only one little note higher and louder than before.

This time, as Bella's eyes travelled over to her Chief, she couldn't help but grin so widely she could've ended up laughing any second.

"Thank you, Miss... Knox. Thank you," Bailey smiled, trying to keep herself from exploding. "We'll be in touch."

"Thank you," Miss Knox nodded, shooting up from her seat. She whacked her legs in the table in the process, sending Bella's glass of water flying. "Oh, goodness, I am so sorry... I am so sorry."

"No, no, don't worry," Bella smiled, standing from her chair before the water could've soaked her. "Please—no worries at all. I'll go get some napkins."

The first thing she did when she left the room had been pulling her phone from her coat and texting Jackson.

A candidate just soaked me, she typed while she moved out of a nurse's way. Spilled on me, even, she said but then laughed at how both of those statements sounded. Water. She knocked the table over and along with it went my glass.
