Cordelia couldn't sleep

Cordelia couldn't sleep. She had spent the night tossing and turning and she had enough of it. She pulled the duvet off her body and slipped on a pair of slippers that rested at her bedside. Cordelia pushed herself off her bed, just in her nightgown, and snuck out of her room.

She held onto the banister tightly as she clambered down them. Squinting her eyes due to the darkness.

Cordelia was trying her best to not wake anyone up. Her mother was a deep sleeper so she wasn't worried about her. But the maids and other helpers in the house were always lurking around the vast hallways.

The blonde didn't bother checking the time, on the grand clock in the hallway as she practically leapt for the door. She became tense, freezing as the key made a loud noise as it clicked, unlocking the door.

Cordelia let out a sigh of relief as her foot touched the outside step. A small grin grew on her face as she closed the door and skipped down the steps.

The girl knew she wasn't allowed to be out. It was actually really stupid of her to do so. But she just felt so compelled to do it.

As Cordelia walked in the dark down the street she couldn't help but feel on edge. Sure in theory the ton should be a safe place, but Cordelia didn't believe it truly was. There were always bad dealings go on around.

The girl also knew from personal experience just how tough men could be to women when they are found alone.

The more she thought about it the more she wished to return home. She cursed herself as she realised how far she had travelled. She was practically on the other side of the ton.

Cordelia breathing started to quicken, her hands becoming shaky. She had made a complete error, and she was scared.

Matters were only made worse when Cordelia caught sight of a man staggering around. He was just walking towards where she was standing which made the girls anxiety to increase by a thousand.

The man was muttering to himself, taking a swig from his flask every so often. Cordelia frantically rushed around trying to find somewhere to hide.

That was until the man fell over and groaned in pain. The caring side of Cordelia made it impossible for her to just walk away.

"Are you alright?" She called out, slowly taking apprehensive steps towards where he laid down.

The man didn't seem to comprehend Cordelia's words and instead tried to sit up himself.
