It has already been two days since the goodbye, only one day left until the ship arrived in New York Harbour.
Tina sat at the desk where she was preparing a map of where Grindelwald was last spotted. Next to her lay a newspaper of that day. It read Grindelwald not Seen since Mass Destruction in London.
Newt was peacefully feeding his beasts in the case when Tina led out a sigh. Somehow she believed that Grindelwalds location was connected to Newt's.
Newt had been an enemy to Grindelwald in various battles, not at least because he stood between him and Dumbledore.
Tina was worried and fiddled with her engagement ring in her hand. Not even a week has passed since then. Yet she did not know whether they could ever have a peaceful wedding in those dark times.
Her eyes travelled to her mother's ring and she examined it clearly. It was a dark blue. This meant neutral. Most of the time it wore that colour.
She wasn't aware of Newt climbing out of his case. He had seemed more distant. In a late night talk when both couldn't sleep he had told her that he was worried Grindelwald would come after Tina as a bait again, since they were so close.
They were determined, however, to fight Grindelwald together, as Tina reminded him then. She was just as worried about Newt though.
'You're not working on that plan again, are you?' Newt asked and pointed at the papers before Tina.
'I'm worried, Newt. The more I study the information, the more I think Grindelwald might actually be after you. Look, it only makes sense, you know.'
'You know, however that worrying means you-'
'Suffer twice,' Tina cut him short.
They loved each other. But their love was put under lots of challenge.
Sometimes they wished they could live a normal, peaceful life. Get married properly and live together happily.
Newt walked directly towards Tina and offered her his hands to get up. She accepted gladly and then pointed at her mother's ring.
'I want you to have this.' Tina said, placing it in Newt's palm.
'I can't take this. It means too much to you, Tina,' Newt complained but he knew Tina's determined look and so she offered him to put it onto his finger.
She gave his hand a gentle stroke with her thumb afterwards.
'Now we are even,' she joked and Newt only looked at her confused.
'You got to give me my engagement ring, now I can slip a ring on your finger too,' Tina explained which made Newt chuckled.
It felt good to be silly together. That laughing was still possible and allowed.
Newt got lost in her eyes. Even though filled with fear, they were still the same eyes. The ones he's fallen in love with. The ones that gave him hope ever so often. He was certain he wanted to grow old with this woman.
'Your eyes, Tina.'
'Salamanders?' she asked in an almost teasing manner.
'What? Oh, no. I mean yes! But... They are beautiful. You are beautiful.' he stated blushing deeply at his awful attempts of flirting.
Tina just smiled and blushed, too.
'Anne.' Tina blurted out.
'What?' Newt was already getting lost in her eyes again.
'Anne. Anne Goldstein. That was my mother. I want to call my Kneazle Anne. Do you remember what I told you at the ball? How my mum would have loved you?'
'Of course. Um.. I mean yes, I do,' Newt said embarrassed. That moment had meant everything to him.
'Well I thought I'd call her that since you bought that Kneazle.' Tina ended.
'That's sweet. I like it. Where are your parents burried?" Newt asked. His future parents in law, he noticed, if they were still alive.
'In the outskirts of New York. Their dream was to live just like your parents. In a large farming house. Well, it never worked. So Queenie and I burried them under a tree. They certainly still lay there. I have never been there since our parents died. Neither has Queenie. Too emotional.'
'Oh. ' Newt didn't know what to say.
'Can you come with me, Newt? '
'Where? '
'Where my parents are burried. '
'Of course, but didn't you say it would be too emotional? ' Newt questioned. He wondered whether Tina would take him there. There certainly were people more comforting and he was of no use to her.
Tina looked down and leaned her head against Newt's shoulder when she said,' But I love you. I would have introduced you to my parents as well if they were still alive. I want them to know that you are a wonderful man that treats me right.'
Newt blushed deeply and simply sighed.
'The ring, Tina. It's green, what does that mean?'
Tina whispered a spell and one word appeared on the ring for a second :
Loved
Their faces went bright red.
Something tapped on the window of their room. It was an owl that carried a letter. Tina let it in and tied the letter from its leg, giving it some extra cookies and opened it after she saw that it was addressed to her.
Newt watched her curiously.
'Newt! Mr Payne from the Auror Department wrote back. He said he's very happy about my application and wants me to meet him in two months to get everything settled. Two months Newt! I could move to you to England?' Tina exclaimed and threw her arms around his waist.
' That's wonderful Tina, but you don't have to. '
'I know I don't but I'd love to,' she stated and both their faces lit up.
Newt picked her up by the waist and spun her around. It seemed like all the sadness had vanished.
