Newt smiled back at her widely. It made him far too happy that there might be hope Tina was staying.
"Um Newt?" she said after a while.
"What is it, Tina?"
"I'd like to um change as it's already very late," she answered and couldn't help but blush.
Newt himself was rather embarrassed for no reason so he muttered a :"Of course, I'm sorry," under his breath before he left the room.
Tina sighed softly. Their relationship got much more awkward since they kissed for the first time. They didn't know how to act around each other, didn't know what was okay to do and what wasn't. There was a lot more to experience.
But although she had been captured by Grindelwald a few hours ago, although Queenie didn't come with them, Tina never felt happier in her life. It seemed as there were so many opportunities now : she would be able to stay in London, with Newt and she would still be able to work as an Auror.
Tina finally snapped back to reality after she'd been asking herself what future would be like, thinking about what could be happening soon.
She then put on her everyday clothes and walked down the stairs to join Newt and Jacob in the kitchen.
They sat in front of a fully setted table but they weren't talking.
Jacob was putting butter on his bread with a concentrated smile on his face while Newt would just stare at the edge of the table.
He saw Tina enter the room and she didn't know if it was illusion but she could see how his face lit up a little.
"Morning," she said to Jacob although she wouldn't stop looking directly into Newt's eyes.
"Good morning, how did you sleep?" Jacob asked enthusiasticly, stopping to butter his bread and looking up at Tina. He didn't seem to notice her until then.
"Fine. Well, could have been better," Tina answered and sat down at the table opposite of the men. She didn't feel hungry at all.
Jacob frowned slightly at her before asking :"What made you sleep bad?"
He didn't get an answer, instead Tina glanced at Newt and their eyes locked for a moment before they flushed deeply, looking back down at the table.
"What is going on with you guys?" Jacob asked confused, now completely giving up to butter his bread when he sat down the knife on his plate.
Again Newt and Tina just blushed and Jacob lost patience :"Could you just tell me what had happened? The only thing I know right now is that you won't stop blushing at everything."
And again, Newt's and Tina's faces were heating up.
Jacob groaned a little :"I wish I was a Legilimence, too."
It startled him when Tina began to speak without warning :"Yesterday, I thought I would be going on a date with Tolliver but I was wrong, it wasn't him who took me out."
Jacob shook his head slightly, confused, so Tina explained further :"Well, it was Grindelwald, it has all been planned..."
Jacob let out a shocked gasp and covered his mouth with his hands as Tina told him every little thing that happened the day before, except, of course, Newt's and her first kiss and everything that followed that morning.
All the time she noticed both, Jacob and Newt were staring at her, Jacob out of shock but she didn't know why Newt wouldn't look away from her.
When she finished talking after some time, nobody said something for a while.
Newt and Tina were both waiting for Jacob to say something but he just looked open-mouthed at the table.
"Wow," he finally managed, wiping away the sweat that had formed on his forehead with the back of his hand.
"Thank goodness you're alright." he added and gave Newt an absentmindly pat on his shoulder, not looking at him.
"Do you... do you need something, Jacob?" Newt awkwardly asked, looking worried at his friend.
"No I'm... I'm alright," Jacob replied, sounding anything but alright.
"You think about Queenie, don't you?" Tina asked softly.
"Yeah I was," Jacob now looked up at her.
Newt thought about how Tina was always able to say the right thing at the right time. She proved it everyday since they met. As she was talking to Credence for example while he didn't know what to say to calm him but it seemed so easy as she just said some simple words with great affect. He was impressed by her gift.
Then he heard her saying :"I'm sure she'll come back one day. One day she'll notice she didn't belong to Grindelwald, she wasn't supposed to serve him and then we'll all be happy again. I promise, Jacob."
These words set free so many feeling in Jacob, Newt could tell.
He was nodding sadly, trying desperately to hold back his tears.
And then Tina laid her hand comfortingly on top of Jacob's. Newt looked down at their hands and felt his heart break. He never felt so jealous, so broken.
He wasn't even aware of the fact that this was supposed to be a comforting gesture.
He just felt how a single tear rolled down his cheek and he wiped it back awkwardly with his whole arm.
"I hope it's going to be like that again." Jacob said more to himself than to anyone in the room.
He realised how Newt stared at their hands and how his cheek was slightly wet when he looked at Newt and Tina, trying to find more comfort.
Jacob immediately knew what he must've been thinking, how he must've felt so he gave Tina's hand a final, little squeeze and let go of her.
She looked up at both of them and hoped she could say the next thing more confidently, less insecure if the thing she would say was true :
"It will."
