Hello again! It's 2022 and I want to remind you that as an author, you can leave a publisher or end your contract with them lalo na kung hindi nila naaalagaan yung libro mo, o kung parang nakalimutan na nila ito.
Ang libro mo ay intellectual property mo, at kahit mawalan na sila ng interes dito, please know that there are readers everywhere who might love to experience your book for the first time.
Yung una kong libro (My Imaginary Ex) ay more than 10 years old na pero may bagong readers pa rin, lalo na ngayon dahil nasama siya sa senior high school syllabus. My other books here, first published in 2010, 2011, 2012...still get new readers.
Our books can be available and discovered still :) You deserve better treatment as an author.
Please check if your contract has an end date. Five years? Ten years? If it does, and lumampas na yung contract duration, send them an email informing them that you are not renewing and have taken back all your publishing rights.
If matagal pa ang end date pero hindi na pinapansin ang libro (ie walang balita sa publishing, walang printing, walang marketing, hindi available sa mga bookstore o online store...): Send an email informing them that they have an obligation to do their best to publish and sell your book and if they cannot do it they might as well give publishing rights back to you. (If they reply and say ok, you should be ok with them ending your contract!)
If walang end date: Send an email informing them that you would like to start the process of getting your rights back and ask them for the procedure.
When you get your rights back, you can decide kung anong gagawin ulit. I recommend revising your book so that it's better (ginagawa ko ito para laging better version ang new edition). I also recommend self-publishing.
I know this is super simplified advice pero take this as a sign na you can still keep your book alive and available for new readers to discover and love. :) Good luck!
