How did she manage to land herself in this mess?
Her brain kept rewinding the prior events of today as the man across her in the ugly suit kept howling slurs and names at her.
She had peacefully attended classes at the university, and then had boarded the bus to her workplace. But since she had forgotten to grab her assignments, she couldn't help but reach five minutes late.
As soon as she had stepped in, she was summoned by a very frantic senior to Mrs. Heckles' office. She assumed that it was because she was late today and had prepared to apologize for her shortcomings.
But, instead she was met by a very tensed Mrs. Heckles who had been trying to explain and calm down some high official in a ugly suit.
And was she shocked! For it was none other than the manwhore on whom she had poured wine on the last day of her work at the restaurant.
"You bitch! You think you know better than me? Do you know who I am? I am the head of the investigatory department. You think you can scribble red ink on my paper and humiliate me? Huh! " He scoffed as he yelled.
"Please Mr. Gerald. Calm down. You had provided a written permission for letting a junior intern assess and analyse your case papers from cyber crimes for learning purposes. And you also allowed for genuine suggestions.
I don't see why would you back off and lash out at the poor soul. " Mrs. Heckles reprimanded him.
"Yeah! I did so! Because my work is perfect! I don't see why some young brat of a whore would have the nerve to correct me! " He spat furiously.
He kept spilling abuses and screamed at an ear-bleeding pitch. Alex rolled her eyes and groaned mentally.
Only she knew how much she was controlling herself from not breaking his goddamned neck to stop his screeching.
But she kept her calm and sighed despite being annoyed. She listened to rambling with patience. Her eyes stuck to the floor and fingers tightly clasped in front of her, but held her head high. She did no wrong, so she wouldn't be the one to be embarrassed.
Mrs. Heckles had asked her to analyze the cyber crimes case papers put out by her seniors and provide suggestions in hopes that Alex would gain a better outlook with the real thing.
Alex had expressed her awkwardness on the idea of analyzing the work of people who were much more experienced than her. It would be disrespectful of her to berate a senior.
But unlike what she had expected, they were pretty cool and humble with the idea. And even encouraged her endeavors.
Except this one man. And should he feel humiliated. His paper was a lousy one, in which he had simply dismissed the case as that of a general Blackhat hacking. But, instead it was a salting algorithm breech that could have threatened the integrity of the client company.
