Chapter 11: Breakout

hi!! author here, this chapter is a bit long so dont hate me for this....sorry

"Containment team #3, take the four in." said an unseen human. "Copy that. Put the rainbow one inside high security. We don't want to take any chances of it escaping." Suddenly, Dawn awoke, but was unable to speak. "Where am I?? What is on my mouth?!" Unbenounced to Dawn, the unknown humans had put a restrain on their mouths, arms, and legs. "What is this place?! Why can't I move??" Dawn then heard people talking through the door. "Crazy how only two of these things took out 8 people. Strange, huh? Thank god they're locked up." Said one person. "I mean, they are living creatures too, we shouldn't lock them up just cause they're trying to defend themselves, right?" "Well, yeah, but what happens if they randomly attack? Whatever then, we should check on them, just to see if they're awake." "Alright, you do that, and I'll go file a report that we are. Slowly, they went through the cells and checked them. "Gootraxian Jammer has not awoke." "Gootraxian Carneline has not awoke." Finally, they got to Dawn. "Creature Nightshade has.. awoke." "Nightshade?! Is that what they're calling me?? What kind of name is that? Is my name not Dawn?? No, it has to be! They ONLY just started calling me that, and i've known my name was Dawn way before this!!" "Hello, Nightshade. How are you feeling?" Dawn gives a muffled message. "Oh right, the mask over your mouth, sorry about that. Let me just.." The human removes the mask from Dawn's mouth. "Where am I?! Why did you lock us up? And why did you call me Nightshade?!" "Woah! Slow down! First of all, you're in Laminax Labs testing unit. We are currently conducting tests on you to see what exactly makes you so, powerful. And the 'Nightshade' thing? Thats what we call you here, its more of well, a code name." "Why do you need to figure out what makes us so strong?! What did we do to disturb your guys' peace?! We literally just want to have our own life!" "Sorry to say this buddy, but you see you're in OUR facility. We have the right to capture anything and anyone who poses any kind of threat." "How were we posing a threat?! You guys attacked us first, and we defended ourselves! We've done nothing!" The human stayed silent. "Whatever. Stay locked up in here. Goodbye." And with that, they closed Dawns cage. One thing though, is that they forgot to reapply his mask, Dawn realized this, and tried to seize the opportunity, think of a plan and escape before they realized and put the mask back on her. "Alright, I need a way out of here. Perhaps chewing through the rope? I mean, I do have sharp teeth.. it's worth a shot.." And so, Dawn started gnawing through the ropes. Finally, Dawn broke one loose. "Ah-ha! My arm is free! Time to do the other!" So again, Dawn gnawed through another rope. Soon enough, both arms were free. "Time to untie these ropes on my legs, then I can hopefully break the others out." Dawn slowly, but surely started untying the last two ropes. Thats when they heard someone coming. "Shit! Did I forget to put the mask back on?? Hopefully nothing has happened yet." "Fuck! One more rope and they FINALLY come back?! Dawn thought to herself. As Dawn was nearly about to untie the last remaining part, the door started to unlock. Right when the door unlocked, Dawn finished. "SHIT!" The human reached for their walkie talkie. "Subject Nightshade has esc-" Dawn hit the human on the head to the point it knocked them out. "Scratch that, False alarm." Dawn said into the walkie talkie. Dawn then went toward the cells. "Lumini?! Fluorite?! Zerine?! Are you guys there?" That's when Dawn heard muffled groans from one of the cells. Dawn ran toward it and started unlocking it. There lie Lumini, just barely waking up. Dawn ran toward them and removed the mask. "Lumini! Are you okay?!" asked Dawn. "D-Dawn..?! Dawn where are we??!" "We're in lab of sorts. A human told me that they're conducting tests on us to see what makes us so "powerful," I guess. They also gave us codenames, they said mine was, Nightshade? They also said two more. Jammer and Carneline." "What?? Codenames?? For what?! Do they have a file unit on us?! We need to get out of here! First though, untie me!" "Oh right, sorry." Dawn began untying Lumini. Soon they untied Fluorite, then explained the whole situation. "I see.. but where is Zerine?! They aren't here!" said Fluorite. "Right! We have to look for her! She's the most powerful, so she's most likely at the highest risk currently." added Lumini. "Right, so we should probably get out of here, before that human wakes up." So off they went, out of the containment room. Before they left though, Lumini had put the guard inside the containment cell; and barricaded it, incase the guard woke up. Slowly, they walked throughout the lab looking throughout the rooms. "Have you guys found any sign of Zerine yet?" asked Lumini. "No, not one clue sadly." "Yeah, me neither. Where is she??" replied Fluorite. Suddenly, Lumini's ears perked up. They heard someone being tested on. "Test 4 on subject "Slime Dragon." Initiating now." "Guys, I think I might have an idea on where Zerine is." said Lumini. "Really? Where are they?? And how do you know??" asked Fluorite, frantically. "I don't know how, but recently i've been hearing things from a distance that I normally shouldn't be able to hear, it's been helpful the few times its been in use." "Thats sttange, but where is Zerine though?? We need to find her!" "Right..I believe Zerine is somewhere down that way. I heard something or someone being tested on, they called it the "Slime Dragon." "Really? Well then what are we standing here for?? Lets go over the-" Dawn paused. "Dawn? Everything alright? Why'd you pause?" asked Lumini. "Look toward the area you said we needed to go." When they did, they realized something. It was full of humans going in and out of facility rooms. "How are we supposed to make it through there?? Theres too many humans!" said Fluorite. "I have an idea. Lumini, this place all connects, right? Even through the ventilation ducts??" "Yeah? Why? What are you trying to get at here?" "What if we try going through the vents? They seem large enough to fit us, and its the quickest, and safest way to Zerine after all." "I suppose you're right, but how are we going to get through the gate? All the vents have gates on them.." said Fluorite. "Have you not noticed your own strength?? I've accidentally broke a hole in the wall, how would a small steel frame stop us?" said Dawn, trying to boast while giving an idea. "Yeah wait! A while back when I first woke up, I accidentally dented a locked heavily, so a vent gate won't stop us." said Lumini, agreeing with Dawn. "Alright then, lets find a vent and find our way into Zerine's room!" So off they went, finding the nearest vent possible. "Found one!" said Fluorite. "Alright! Let me just rip the gate off.. and... there! Who goes first?" "I'll go first, as I had the idea to begin with.." replied Dawn, answering Lumini's question. First Dawn, then Lumini, then Fluorite. Slowly, they traversed the maze that is the ventilation shaft. "Where are we?! How have we not found Zerine yet?!" said Fluorite. "Wait, be quiet guys. I think we're close. I hear testing going on above us." "Test #10, gootraxian Slime Dragon, initiate." After that was said, the only thing the three could hear were screams of agony. Zerine at this point was being tortured, not tested upon. Yet after a while, they heard the same voice. "Collect a sample, and add it to the shelf." "What the fuck?? What are they doing to Zerine??! Samples?? Testing?? Holy shit!" said Lumini. Lumini tried rushing forward, but Dawn stopped her. "Lumini, I know you want to help her now, so do I, but we can't. We'd put ourselves in danger if we went in there right now." "Dawn?! What?! Why are you saying this?! We need to help Zerine, now!" "We can't! If we help her now, we'll get captured again, and us escaping will have been for nothing!" Zerine went silent. Eventually, the screams stopped, and they stopped hearing the human voices. "Alright, I think we can go up now." All three of them got out of the vent. Zerine was passed out in a chair due to the pain, and restrained. "Holy sh-" Dawn cut Lumini off. "Keep your voice down! We can't alert the humans!" "Sorry.. but as I was saying, holy shit! What have they been doing to Zerine?! I've never seen her this beat up before!" said Lumini. "That doesn't matter now! We need to break Zerine out, and get out of here ourselves!" said Fluorite. The three of them went toward the control panel, and eventually found an unlock button for the chair. "Alright! Lets just press it and..." said Lumini. But when Lumini pressed it, Zerine' body had been weakened so much to the point it immediately slumped over and fell to the ground. "Zerine! You two grab Zerine, and we'll backtrack through the ven-" Lumini suddenly cut off. "Lumini? What's wrong?" "We need to hide, now." This time, they didn't question Lumini. They just hid, and took Zerine too. Suddenly, humans walked in. "And.. test #13 initiating.. wheres the dragon?" "Huh?" "The dragon, the one that's supposedly the most dangerous one." "It's gone?!" "Yes its gone?? What do you think I meant?? Sound the alarms, you dimwits!" Suddenly, a loud blaring started. The sentence,  "INITIATING LOCK DOWN MODE. A GOOTRAXIAN HAS ESCAPED. BE ON THE LOOKOUT." started blaring repeatedly. "Go check on the other three! We can't risk having all four of them running around! Set everything on lockdown!" "Got it, what do we do if we find them?" "Shoot them down! Don't take any chances!" "Alright. Head out men!" Suddenly, the four jumped out. "Ah! Don't hurt me!" Lumini walked up to the scientist. "Give me ONE reason not to kill you! You were torturing her!! What the fuck is wrong with you?!" screamed Lumini. "L-Look! I was hired to do this! It's just my job! Stop! Please!" said the Scientist. Lumini charged up an attack. "Lumini! Calm down! If he's telling the truth, then he's innocent!" "Y-Yeah! Listen to your friend there! I-I'm innocent!" Lumini hesitated, but eventually stopped charging up the attack. "I'm not letting you run around though. You are going to sit in that chair." said Lumini. "W-What?? You're gonna trap me in the chair?? N-No! Don't!" "Too bad." Lumini dragged the scientist toward the chair; and made him sit down. "Click the button, Dawn. Close the hatches." "No! Stop!" said the Scientist. Dawn pressed the button. "Before we go, we need to know. Where is the nearest exit?" "Why do I need to tel-" Lumini charged up a punch. "Okay okay! I'll tell you! It's down the hall, to the right, when you take the turn, keep walking straight!" said the Scientist. Lumini stopped charging a punch, and left the scientist. "A-Are you just gonna leave me here??! No!" "Your little guards will find you eventually. Good luck." Before Lumini left though, he knocked the shelf of samples onto the ground, destroying all of them. said Lumini. When they left the room, they started talking "We have to get Zerine somewhere safe, she's in critical condition, this place isn't safe for her." said Lumini. "Yeah, but where would we go? They know we escaped, so how would we hide??" Fluorite suddenly chimed in. "I think there should be a place somewhere nearby, I accidentally stumbled across it way before, I don't think the humans know where it is, we could go there if I CAN remember the way there." "Really? Do you remember the location around it??" asked Dawn. "I think I do, I believe its surrounded by snow? When I went there, it was empty, all there was were some rocks." added Fluorite. "Alright, then lets go there. We have to take our chances there, as the whole facility is probably covered by humans." "Alright Fluorite, lead the way!" So then, the three of them started walking, Lumini and Dawn carrying Zerine. Thats when suddenly, a purple-green blur was seen by Fluorite. "Did you guys see that?? There was like a blur!" asked Fluorite. "What? What are you talking about??" said Lumini, puzzled. "Yeah, we didn't see anything, it was probably your imagination." "Y-Yeah, probably.." said Fluorite. So they continued walking; until finally Fluorite recognized it. "This is it! This is the area I saw!" "The snow area..? Don't the humans know about this area??" "They do, but theres something they don't know about, follow me." Suddenly, Lumini and Dawn saw it. "A cave?? How did we not know about this place??" asked Lumini. "I found this place around the day after I met you guys, at the time, I thought it was strange but left it." replied Fluorite. "Alright then, lets head inside the cave and put down Zerine, we need to nurse her back to health, fast." "Dawn, do you have anything that could possibly be used to patch up the wounds?" asked Lumini. "Yeah, I have these bandages from a while ago, you can wrap up the wounds with it." "Perfect! Thanks Dawn." Lumini started wrapping up the gunshot wounds, stab wounds, and others. Fluorite suddenly realized something. "Hey guys, don't we heal ourselves? Why do we need to patch up Zerine' wounds?" Lumini was about to speak, but Dawn cut them off. "The difference is, when a wound is too deep, or there are too many, our bodies would take so much energy healing ourselves to the point it'd kill us, so it's much safer to wrap up Zerine when she's in this condition." As they were talking, Zerine slowly woke up. "H-Huh?? Where am I?? Guys??" "Zerine! Are you feeling okay??" asked Lumini. "Yeah.. I think I'm ok-" Zerine winced in pain. "Zerine, you need to rest. Your body is in extreme conditions." said Fluorite. "No, no.. I'm oka.." Zerine fainted. "Looks like Zerine still needs rest. How long do you guys think we'll have to wait here for?" asked Lumini. "No idea, probably for 2 days at least, they'll be looking all over for us, as we escaped their grasp. But for now, we just need to rest." "Dawn's right. If we escaped them that easily, we'll be sitting for at least two days, since they'll be searching the facility for us. Thank god I still remembered this spot though."

One hour later.

"Sir?! What happened to you??" said a guard. "Free me you dimwit! I'll tell you afterward! I've been sitting locked up for 2 hours!" "Right away sir, sorry." The guard pressed the button. "The gootraxians escaped. They locked me in the chair and got away. They took the rainbow one." "What happened to the samples?" "They destroyed those too, except for one." Suddenly, the Scientist pulls out a vial of rainbow slime from his pocket. "You managed to save one? Perfect! We'll use it to develop weapons!" "Precisely. You might not be that dumb afterall, guard."
