Chapter Five

As I lay on my bed weeping, I heard my door creak as it opened. I kept my head in my pillow and ignored my eldest sister, Addi, as she sat on my bed and said "Kat, I'm so sorry." She rubbed my back, soothingly, and asked if there was anything that I wanted.

"Wesley." I muttered throughmy pillows.

"Well, do you want me to call 'im?" I started to cry again. "Aw, Kat, what is it?"

"He wouldn't come if you did call." I moaned.

"What? He's mad about you."

I cried again. "He broke up with me!"

"What? When? Why?" Addi asked, shocked.

"Today. He said he couldn't be there for me and that he couldn't love me like I needed him to right now."

"Does he know?"

I nodded. "He'd comforted me and everything."

   "He broke up with you?"

"No. He said he was 'giving us a break'. I mean, utter crap."

"Then what?"

"Then I called him a bastard and stormed out of the house. He didn't even come after me."

"Seriously?! The evil git!"

"No, no, he's not. He was one of the best things in my life. He - and I know this sounds majorly corny - completes me, he makes me smile when I see him, he loves - loved, sorry - everything about me. He was...he was my best friend. He really was." I whispered the last bit before a few stray tears fell down my cheeks.

"Oh, I'm sorry. Come 'ere. Do you want me to get you a drink, or summin'?"

"Can you grab me a WKD?"

"Yeah sure. Blue okay?"

"Yeah. Thanks."

Addi came in to my room five minutes later and had two blue WKDs. We sat and drank them and then had another one each. By lunch time, we had had three drinks each. We had now gotten over comforting me and had decided to moan and point all of the bad things about Wesley out.

We went down for dinner and sat together, talking between ourselves. Everyone, except mum and Addi, were just smiling at me. They weren't saying anything to me, just having the usual conversations between themselves, anything to keep away from the subject. When I had finished - well, I say 'finished' I really mean picked at the spaghetti bolognese, cut it up, picked at it some more and moved it around the plate - I sighed, rammed my chair back, into the wall, stormed upstairs and slammed my door shut. As I felt tears run down my red cheeks, I heard Addi say "Well, weren't you lot bloody kind?! I mean, she just found out her dad's died and her boyfriend broke up with her about it! Could you guys be any more stupid?! She wants to know that the people around her are there to love her and not just talk about who got an A star on their Science test, who got the lead role in the school play, who's going out with their friends and who hates mum because she won't let you get your hair dyed. Seriously?! Just...just...get a grip, you're all sodding pathetic! Now, if you don't mind, I'm going to go and talk to our sister, the one who's grieving the loss of her dad and boyfriend. Just all of you stay away if you don't have anything useful to say to her!" I then heard a bunch of Ohhhhhs, the ones that people make when a teacher calls you out of the middle of class.

"Just fuck off and grow a heart!" I heard Addi yell before her foot steps on the stairs ebcame apparent. Addi then walked into my room. I got off of my bed and went and hugged her hard.

"Thank...you." I said between sobs. She just hugged me back and said that it was okay. Addi guided us towards the bed and then we lay down and she just hugged he, keeping me in a warm hold. A protective hold that was softening the blow of all of the events of the past few days.
